HR/RBI Derby Tuesday 8/14/18 Rays @ Yankees

Our Yanks have to pick themselves off the floor after their hu-Mutt-ilation last night.  The Rays should be easy meat for the Bombers, but this season has taken some strange turns, indeed.  Looking for his third victory as a Yankee will be J.A. Happ and the opposition will send out righty reliever Hunter Wood to begin their parade of hurlers.

HR/RBI picks will commence at 6:05 PM EDT.

Let our denizens not make the mistake tonight of leaving out several good players.  As it turned out, Andujar's HR was of no benefit to anybody and the three points went up in smoke.  Remember the old Derby axiom...

"Ya can't click if ya don't pick."

Here is the lineup for the Yankees:

  1. B Gardner (L) LF
  2. G Stanton (R) DH
  3. A Hicks (S) CF
  4. D Gregorius (L) SS
  5. M Andújar (R) 3B
  6. G Bird (L) 1B
  7. G Torres (R) 2B
  8. N Walker (S) RF
  9. A Romine (R) C

From last night's thread:

It is time to begin discussing whether we want a postseason version of the HR/RBI game, what form it would take and how many participants would be eligible to take part.

Under the old rules, it could be set up for 3, 4 or 9 finalists and was run like a draft.  Three to five minutes were given to each contestant to make a pick in the order of highest season total to lowest.  The number of picks for each person per game depends on how many are competing...3 each for 3 players, 2 each for 4 players (with one Yankee left out) and 1 pick each if 9 contestants are in the game.  Picks would be made 1 at a time down the order of contestants and then back to the top again for the next round of picks if there are fewer than 9 contestants.

The poster totals would add up cumulatively over as many ballgames as our team lasts in the postseason.  At the end of the Yankees' run (a WS championship, hopefully!), the poster with the highest total takes the trophy and the glory.  Of course, those who place and show will have some bragging rights as well.

That being said, if Derby participants and fans would like to suggest other viable ways of running a postseason game, by all means do so.  We have time to hash out the possibilities.  We can award virtual trophies, play just for fun or not play a postseason version at all.  Thoughts?

The Derby Spotlight is focused tonight on 6 members of the leaderboard separated by a total of only 6 points.  This bodes well for an interesting stretch run with 44 games remaining to be played in the regular season.  There are still 176 possible HR/RBI points left to award.

I will be out of the country in the early portion of October...missing a stretch of post season games as I will attempt to follow via internet.  Although where I'm going might be a difficult endeavor. As with countries that has restrictive access to American websites, getting access to various website is not clear.

I might only get it with reports from family members.  I'll actively make inquires as times draws near....

Needless to say, participating in post season derby will be hit and miss for me....

Hey lauren, check into getting a VPN service while you are on your trip.  That would allow you to use a server in the U.S and you would avoid those access problems.

I'm not familair as to how that is done.  Do I inquire with my cell service provider?

I don't know about "easy meat" Bertram. Our boys would be wise to take this Rays team seriously. If we play our best we should get the victory!  LET'S GO YANKEES!!!

There are VPN providers with their own sites.  And some offer free trial periods that would likely cover your whole vacation.  A couple of friends of mine have used them when they traveled and recommend them.  I have never tried them out, but there are reviews online.  Just google VPN customer reviews or ratings.
