Girardi on Sanchez

Girardi on just now on MLB Network.  Says Most of Sanchez's problem with his passed balls and plays at the plate is, his left knee collapses. They showed every passed ball last night and Altuve scoring in that post season game when Sanchez missed played the throw, and his left knee goes go down.

Girardi says when that happens, Sanchez looks down, and he is right.  I see it now, and never noticed that.  Girardi says he should have tried to catch and play that throw to home against Houston like an infielder and not go down on his left knee because that makes him lower his head. Good stuff! He  needs a good coach is what I surmise from that.

So, they fired the guy that could have fixed it.

Could be the front office doesn't want managers working with the players on fielding?

So are you saying Girardi couldn't even convey his observations to Pena on direction of the front office? I would find that hard to believe I'm just not prepared to give Girardi and his staff a pass for Sanchez and blame Boone. Seems to me regarless of manager or staff, Sanchez for whatever reason is not responsive. I find it hard to believe these issues haven't been talkes about time after time. I would think it's mostly on Sanchez

I don't blame Boone for Sanchez ... I blame Sanchez for Sanchez ... I know they must have had people working with him ... he's just not listening.

That has been discussed on MLB also. I forget the analyst, but he used to play, maybe DeRosa? Anyway it was discussed that Sanchez just may not have the capabilities or tools it takes to learn the position in its entirety. Seems like a reasonable explanation, since I can't believe this hasn't been discussed before about Sanchez.  I mean are they that influenced with his hitting?  Now he is coming along with that, however very slowly. I mentioned before how similar his problems are to Jesus Montero but is obviously a much better hitter.  Same reputation, same catching problems and same results to date. I know another "prospect" that they love that has the opposite problem.  He can catch throws and field, he just hasn't the capabilities to hit.  Not all solid prospects and great players in the minors make great MLB players. Ever hear of Bill Beane?  Bird may not be a Yankee problem to have to fix much longer. Same with Sanchez if he doesn't start to learn the position. I don't think the Yankees are keen on a permanent DH. I know one thing, if they put Sanchez behind the plate in a one playoff game, it will be a huge risk and mistake.

Wasn't it discussed as one of the reasons Girardi was let go was because he was being too rough on Sanchez?  Expecting him to work hard at improving his game.  What an ogre!
