Yankees Former Pitcher Urban Shocker passes away (1890-1928)

September 9, 1928At the of age of 38, veteran Yankees hurler Urban Shocker dies of pneumonia in Denver, Co, where he had gone for his health. Only now does it become known that he had suffered from an enlarged heart, he was unable to sleep lying down for 2 years. Shocker, who never had a losing season on his MLB pitching career, he was 18-6 for the 1927 Yankees, but he appeared in only 1 game for the 1928 Yankees, before leaving the team for his health problems.

September 15, 1915: Drafted by the New York Yankees from Guelph (Canadian) in the 1915 MLB  Rule 5  player draft.


January 22, 1918: Traded by the New York Yankees  along with P Nick Cullop, INF Joe Gedeon, INF Fritz Maisel, Catcher Les Nunamaker and $15,000 to the St. Louis Browns for P Eddie Plank and 2B Del Pratt. Plank did not report to the Yankees and retired from MLB


December 17, 1924: Traded by the St. Louis Browns to the New York Yankees for 3 Pitchers Bullet Joe Bush, Milt Gaston and Joe Giard.
