He is the 5th starter  and on a cheap one year deal.
You people make me laugh. You had no problem when it was Andy coming back on one year deals. Maybe because he was home grown?

You can't compare Andy to CC

Gardy and CC... not excited at all!

Trust me, Cash is nowhere near done.  If he had taken care of the heav lifting first people wouldn't be upset at all about CC/Gardy.  We needed a 4th OF and 5th SP either way so bringing back veteran leaders to fill those roles makes sense.  I'm not concerned about the fact that they did that before filling in the spots ahead of them.

For what it's worth...

...according to media reports, three other teams made contact with Sabathia with an eye towards signing him...

...and one was the Astros, according to Ken Rosenthal.

I don't "get it." I don't "get it"with a lot of these professional sports franchises at times though........not just the Yankees. Perhaps there is something we don't know or can't grasp in some way. It's like you're going into the brand new, modern grocery store where they sell everything from eggs to TV's and you go to the Yogurt section where there are 60 selections and you get the "generic" brand. I don't see how CC moves the needle in any way. I think the "great clubhouse guy" only goes so far...................I DON'T think Severino in any way has shown he's a #1 starter yet. Not by any stretch of the imagination. He's had brutal in season stretches and he's had brutal post season starts. I do not see how they think they KNOW {in any way} what they got with Severino. Heck, even when he was good this post season he only went 4 IP. I think the Yankees DELUDE themselves some times. You think they have 3 starters as good as Sale-Price-Porcello? I don't. PITCHING.

CC's a broken down player. He's no longer the guy to go to when you need the team to stop a losing streak, he's become the guy who fails in the final game of elimination for the Yankees...and they bring him back for yet another year? All it proves to me is the team is not taking 2019 as seriously as most fans would like. It's bad enough they bring back Gardy, but CC too? The 2019 Yankees (so far) are on a downward spiral compared to the 2018 Yankees. I'm curious to see what Cashman will do to try and catch up to the Red Sox, when so far he's just oiling the old parts to their Edsel which is only getting older and rustier, while the Red Sox are polishing their brand new Porsche.

The Yankees plan seems to be to add a top of the rotation guy, a middle of the rotation guy and a back of the rotation guy.  They just added their back of the rotation guy.

I also think Sev-Happ-Tanaka is a lot closer to Sale-Price-Porcello than you suggest.  Those guys stepped up this postseason, but other than Sale I don't see a sure thing in that rotation either.

They're paying him $8M.  They don't view him as a stopper anymore.  He's a cog in the rotation.  The heavy lifting and (if all goes according to plan) the playoff starts will go to the other 4 guys.

CC is probably headed for the Hall of Fame one day and may still have one more year left in that arm. If he doesn't, the $8 M won't hinder the team much in their 2019 plans.

In light of the number of games the Yanks lost in the middle of the year because they didn't have any ready options when they needed a 6th, 7th and 8th starter, the Yanks will probably pick up at least 2 more starters, maybe 3 more if they trade Gray.
