.....Cashman said the injury had been bothering the 25-year-old slugger since 2017, though cortisone shots had been administered to maintain the pain. The two sides agreed surgery was the best option after Sanchez complained of discomfort while working out last week in Tampa Bay.

It’s no secret Sanchez struggled on both sides of the ball last season, though it seems he’s looking to correct his woes. Sanchez made noise early Wednesday after tweeting that he’d been working out with Hall of Fame catcher Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez.

“Part of wanting to get better is wanting to learn from those who have been great and done it before you. Thank you for the knowledge @Pudge_Rodriguez,” Sanchez posted to social media.

Despite playing in just 89 games last season, Sanchez led all of MLB with 18 passed balls.

Sanchez didn’t fare much better in the batter’s box, slashing .186/.291/.406/.697 alongside 18 home runs and 53 RBI.

I wonder, since this is allegedly a long-standing problem, why he didn't have the surgery a month ago.

Eh, we survived a few months each year without him so we can again in '19.

the problem I see is that it eliminates his ability to work on his defense and possibly keep the weight down during the off season. Now he has a built in excuse to come into camp out of shape and this guy doesn't need much of an excuse

Supposed to be out 3 months Ready for ST. Has been in pain for a year... multiple shots haven’t helped apparently. perhaps this has been part of his hitting problem ? Cashman et.al. probably knew this all along and have stuck with him because of it.

How about we give him a chance to recuperate and see how he does this year before burning him at the cross ?

Life is better when the Yankees win !

I said all along I didn't want to trade him or give up on him but the shoulder problem didn't cause him to gain all that wait and it didn't keep him from running out that dp ball and it didn't keep him from chasing that passed ball and it didn't cause him to lead the league in passed balls

My point is, Sanchez has an awful lot to prove this year
