It would be a nice pickup but I would like to see them try to bring in Grandal to share the catching and DH duties with Sanchez.  Sanchez was at his best when he was stealing McCann's job and it would keep them both fresh.  When healthy Stanton can be our left fielder, he is too young and good an athlete to be a full time DH already.

Grandal is going to get paid a lot of money to start somewhere.  Sanchez was really good in 2017 after McCann was gone.  He doesn't need someone to fight him for his job.  He just needs to understand that 2018 can never happen again...  and I'm sure he does.  He has to be embarrassed by that season.

I wonder if the interest in getting a top flight catcher is related to the surgery that Sancez had back in November ? Cashman said at the time that the problem existed back to '17 and might be a big part of his "lack" of production in '18. Could he be hurt / seriously damaged ?

It's not just that.  Catching is the hardest position on the body except for pitcher.  No catcher starts more than 70% of the time anymore and when Sanchez is on his bat is one of our most important and clutch in the line-up.  In my view We would greatly benefit from another outstanding catcher splitting catching and DH duties much more than DHing Stanton when he is a capable corner outfielder.  Romine is a fine backup catcher but used to have no bat.  Now the last two seasons he hit for the first 1/3 of the season and stopped hitting all together.  I don't know we can expect that to change.

I want Sanchez to reach his potential but have dreams of a modern day Yogi/Elston combo.

The Yankees should trade Sanchez to the Marlins for  Realmuto and maybe swing a deal that included Starlin Castro was well, who can play 2B while Torres slides over to shortstop, while Didi is recovering. Also Castro can play 3rd. and shortstop. Also today, the Cubs have non-tendered Toe  and resign him.

Realmuto is one of top catcher's in MLB, he isn't a Marlin's castoff. He is a excellant player who the Marlins can't afford to pay him the right money and wants to be traded this off-season, he doesn't want to be stuck on a team that is years from being a serious contender in the NL East.
