Don 't know much about this guy. What I heard he is more a defensive guy. If so, then that is an expensive late inning defensive replacement. Is this way of saying to Manny , if you really want to play for us then take the offer we would be comfortable with.

As other posters have typed, this says Machado is not coming to Yankee Stadium!

No it doesn't Machado plays 3b, which we need to improve defensively.

At $12M annually?

That is the current rumbling.

He has played virtually his entire career at second base. Out of 892 games, he has played less than 6% of those at a position other than second. Unclear then how the Yankees would consider him some super utility man.

And for $12m bucks, it sounds like he will be the starting 2nd sacker until Didi returns.

That isn't what Jack Curry is saying.  He's going to be the utility infielder.  He'll probably get more PA than most utility IF do, but that is going to be his role.

And Neil Walker had primarily played 2B in his career too...  until he came here and played 1B, 2B, 3B and RF.  You guys are overrating the lack of experience at other positions.  He's a good defender.  He'll get experience by playing those positions this year.

Ninja! It figures you have no issue with this overpaid Wade. They could’ve had Lowrie whos a lefty for a cheaper price. Your best argument is that DJ will learn the other positions on the fly, huh? You have to be the Trashmans son, the way you kiss his butt. I can’t wait till all these signings expose our brilliant GM for the dummy he is and you running around defending him at every turn. It’ll be very entertaining!

Maybe Cashman stole yer girl?    You sure hate him...

I like the acquisition, but seems he'd have to start at 2B which means Gleyber moves to SS. If Tulo stays with the team that makes him the UT IF. He can play all IF positions and, considering his injury history, maybe that'd be for the best. Of course, it's a long way to opening day.

The question becomes...what happens when Didi returns?

When Didi returns, LeMahieu will continue to be the utility infielder...  which is what he's going to be doing before Didi returns :)

The Yankees plan to use LeMahieu as a versatile player around the infield. They will use him at second base, first base and third base.

We really don't know when Didi is coming back, so it looks like they are doing better than a Toe type to fill in. $12 mil is kind of rich, but our infield is looking a hell of a lot better defensively. The pitchers should be appreciative.

Expect him to hit between .220 and .260 ... best guess is .240

Are you still predicting Wade will be a 15-20 HR guy?

Dwayne?   Surely not Tylah?

And yet some are willing to sign Machado to age 36.

He will be a good player then, but you shouldn't care, it isn't your money.

Albatross contracts should be avoided, as well as making a guy with so many character issues the highest paid player on your team.

Find out how good Torres is at SS.

Then why did they sign Tulo? I can't figure this out. lol!

Tolu hasn't made the team yet, he's a cheap backup, and if he doesn't figure in at the start of the season, they'll just lose $550,000.

Ah, Davis, but it IS your money.  Every dollar of revenue the Yankees take in ultimately comes from the fans who purchase tickets, concessions, merchandise, pay for parking, pay cable TV fees, subscribe to MLB.TV and indirectly by having to sit thru all the ads.  So while it is your money, only Hal gets to determine how much he will spend on putting the best possible on the field team and how much he and his family will pocket.

George had a lot of faults, but putting the profit margin over winning wasn't one of them.  Clearly Hal isn't a win at all costs owner.
