And yet some are willing to sign Machado to age 36.

He will be a good player then, but you shouldn't care, it isn't your money.

Ah, Davis, but it IS your money.  Every dollar of revenue the Yankees take in ultimately comes from the fans who purchase tickets, concessions, merchandise, pay for parking, pay cable TV fees, subscribe to MLB.TV and indirectly by having to sit thru all the ads.  So while it is your money, only Hal gets to determine how much he will spend on putting the best possible on the field team and how much he and his family will pocket.

George had a lot of faults, but putting the profit margin over winning wasn't one of them.  Clearly Hal isn't a win at all costs owner.

Yes is in the Spectrum basic package, so even some sux fans are paying...   But indirectly you are right. But it's Happy Hal's money.  I made the comment because Bobby commented in another thread about it not being his $$$, but has some hangup about 10 year deals with Machado/Harper. If they were 30+, I'd agree.

You may want to consider the Yankees only MLB.TV.  I think I got it for $94 last year.  I live in NH and Maine (in the summer) so they black out games with the Red Sox, but I can watch them on the Red Sox network.  Actually, if I'm listening on the radio I prefer the RS announcers to Sterling and Waldmyn.

I like having the ability to watch other games in addition to the Yankee games. As for the radio broadcasts, I'd rather listen to Ben Stein and Fran Drescher announcing a curling competition than listen to Sterling / Waldman. Whenever I was in NY on business the Yankees were blacked out on MLB.TV, but I could get the radio broadcasts. There was the choice of Sterling / Waldman or the opposing team. I'd always choose the opposing team...would even endure 3 hours of Hawk Harrelson to avoid having to listen to them. I honestly don't understand why they're still employed by the Yankees.

Extremely disappointed in this signing.    If you don't want to spend the money on Machado, fine.   Get it.    We have enough talent without him.   What we need is a left handed hitter, ala Daniel Murphy, or a switch hitter like Marwin Gonzales or Jerry Hairson that can play all over the place.    So we sign a second baseman that has barely played anywhere but that position and batted .229 outside of Coors field.   Oh, and he is over 30.    They did not give him 12 million a year to sit on the bench.    There is another move coming.    Unless they totally don't believe Tulo can play, and that could be with Torres moving to short.    I do believe they have Andujar on the block and if they get a high end pitcher; aka Madbum, Kluber, Bauer, then they would move him.    They may then jump back in on Machado.    This team could really use Harper to add a power lefty bat, but I digress.    Welcome to middle America Yankees.

davis, I do not believe Machado has committed any of the crimes you mention, but aside from his lack of hustle, he has proven repeatedly that he is a dirty player. Throwing bats at other players, punching fielders as he slides into a base and kicking players as he crossed 1B as evidence.

Anyone else suspect the Opening Day infield is going to have Torres at 3rd, Tulo at short, LeMahieu at 2nd and Andujar on another team ?

I figured the Yanks would put LeMahieu at 3rd. But yes, when I heard about the signing I thought there was a chance that the Yankees already had a trade in place that involved Andujar.

.298 !!!!! He has a .264 career road avg (away from coors field) and he is switching leagues.

Expect him to hit between .220 and .260 ... best guess is .240

Are you still predicting Wade will be a 15-20 HR guy?

Never said 15-20 but 10-15 yes he could be at Yankee stadium

Also predicted Adujar would be a 25 HR 40 2B guy when everyone and I mean everyone wanted to dump him for Brandon Drury

Not on this message board. It was the exact opposite. Almost everyone wanted Andujar to get a chance with the Yankees.

Albatross contracts should be avoided, as well as making a guy with so many character issues the highest paid player on your team.

Is he a rapist? Murderer? Pedophile?   Someone I know who is an Oriole fan says he is a good guy as well as player.  I know he has issues with the Sux, which is a good reason to sign him! I believe the "character issues" are overblown.

Being Yankee fans and playing the O's so many times we have all followed a good part of Machado's career.  His remark was probably just using poor words to point out the fact that you don't go 110% on every ball hit, you just don't.  I have never known him to be anything other than a very good player, and if he goes in spikes high against the Red Sox then it makes me like him even more!  LOL!

Love the comparison.  I don't understand a team that used to stand for class can allow such a jerk to be thier radio voice.  Last summer I decided that the only other team's games I was likely to watch to see how they turned out was the RS.  And since I live in RS territory I get NESN and NESNgo thru my cable provider.  One thing about the RS radio announcers, when the RS lose you can actually hear the pain in their voices, especially if they are losing to the Yanks.

Can't handle Remy. Was shocked that they canned Don Orsillo...good announcer. I found that out from my brother, who lives in San Diego area...a HUGE Padres fan.

I really don't get it re Sterling/Waldman. Was on a road trip a couple of years ago, lost my phone connection to MLB.TV and had to listen to them on MLB radio on Sirius. Sterling's lip smacking drove me crazy...but suffered thru it. The straw that broke the camel's back...Yanks were down by 2 bottom 8. They were rallying when I pulled up to our hotel, so I sat in the parking lot to listen while my wife checked in. I think it was Headley at the plate...hit what Sterling called a 2 run game tying HR. Ran to my room, fired up my laptop to watch the rest of the game, turned out it was a ground rule double...scoring 1 run. They ended up losing the game by 1. Over the years there have been many "sterling" moments like that.

Then you must have loved Rizzuto.  Never mind the cannolis and Cora. I can't count the number of frustrating moments listening to him on the radio with the Yanks tied or trailing and a Yankee batter would hit a fly ball and he would get all excited and you'de think maybe he had hit a HR - right up to the point where the RF called off the 2B to make the catch.

I have long since stopped doing it, but in the late 60s and early 70s we spent 6 years living in IL and WI.  There was a station in Syracuse, NY, that used to broadcast the Yankee games and it would start to come in most nights between 8 and 9 PM.   But some nights I had to get in the car and drive around to find a spot where I could get it on the car radio.  My wife thought I was nuts.
