LeMahieu is entering the market at age-30 and has rated well defensively at an important position. There’s reason to believe his bat is better than some metrics show.

VERY interesting. Really like him...question is how does the IF shape up now?

Sounds like the Yankees are moving away from Machado. It also makes me think that the Yankees have a trade already in place for Andujar.

THe only way that I can see them trading Andujar now is to make room for Machado at 3B. LeMeheiu is not going to produce offensively like Andujar will. He'll make a hell of a defensive replacement though all over the INF.

At $12M annually?

That is the current rumbling.

I like the acquisition, but seems he'd have to start at 2B which means Gleyber moves to SS. If Tulo stays with the team that makes him the UT IF. He can play all IF positions and, considering his injury history, maybe that'd be for the best. Of course, it's a long way to opening day.

The question becomes...what happens when Didi returns?

They prob drop Tulo unless it's he's Mr 2011 again

Maybe...but then you've got Andujar / Didi / Gleyber / LaMahieu. Seems like something's gotta give, unless Yanks are in fact willing to spend $12M on a UT IF.

When the Yankees have a $149 Mil payroll (with DJ) and view themselves as WS contenders with a weak defense, you can afford to upgrade Torreyes/Wade with a former GG, All-Star to be the utility INF that can actually hit. It certainly helps that Didi is hurt for about half the season.

Just the guy we needed to put us over the top!

You know how a lot of people kept talking about how the Red Sox play great defense and don't strike out a lot and move the runners over and all that fun stuff...?  Meet DJ LeMahieu.

That was my first thought as well. Glad we didn't acquire another 100+ K bat.

Understood...although he can't play SS, and if Voit continues to hit as he did you won't see him at 1B. So he's essentially a 2B/3B. Yeah...he fits now, but when Didi comes back are you going to sit the bats of Andujar/Gleyber for him more than 1-2 games a week?

He's an excellent defensive player with an adequate bat. A good addition as long as the expectations for hitting aren't too high.

He has a career BA of .330 with a .835 OPS at Coors Field and .264/.673 everywhere else. Last year, those splits were .317/.793 at Coors and .229/.698 away. There are plenty of big bats in the lineup, so as long as he does his job the team is better off. Not sure what his role will be when Didi returns, though.

He did win a batting title. Has career .298 BA. Lets see what he does out of Coors.

His 8 year history outside of Coors is a pretty good sample size. He had a monster year in 2016 when he won the batting title hitting .348, but even that year, his BA was nearly 100 pts higher at Coors and his OPS was 300 pts higher. Tulo hit .340 his last full year in Colorado, then .239, .254 and .249 his three years in Toronto. I'm very happy with the signing, I think other fans will be also, as long as they're not expecting his Coors inflated career numbers in New York. If he does hit .298, great. I don't expect it, but would love it if he does.

.298 !!!!! He has a .264 career road avg (away from coors field) and he is switching leagues.

Expect him to hit between .220 and .260 ... best guess is .240

Your skills for averaging 2 numbers are simply unparalelled.

Are you still predicting Wade will be a 15-20 HR guy?

Remember all the times that Boonie rested whoever hit a HR the night before last season? Expect more of the same lol. Don't worry- if Andujar, Torres or Voit hits a HR you can bet that they'll like the matchup for LeMeheiu the very next day. That's after Didi returns of course.

Until then he's likely the starting 2B with Torres playing SS. I have no faith in Tulo and given that he's making league minimum, niether does anyone in the Yankee organization.

I think that's a given. Tulo actually makes a better all-around UT IF if he can stay healthy. He truly can play any IF position. Still...it's a long way to opening day.

I'm more worried about Tulo just not being good even more so than staying healthy. He's now 34 and hasn't seen playing time since July 2017 in the midst of a very, very average to below average season (by his standards). I'd bet the house that his All Star days are behind him, but I don't blame the yanks for grabbing a dirt cheap lottery ticket.

I  like Voit! I don´t know what the Yanks will do  to choose once Spring Training is over since Bird is supposed to compete with him.
