If Boston signs or trades for an impact bat someome close of a player (JD)

How and what does the make you feel about the Yankees off season and current teams.Does that change your mind?

I highly doubt either will happen. If they were to trade for a bat close to JD's potential it would have to be a player who is on a very team frindly contract. I don't believe the Sox have the pieces in their system to make that type of acquisition. And there is no way they are taking back a player who is making any kind of money which leads to why they won't sign a Machado or Harper or anyone else with the potential of JD. Right now the Sox payroll for luxury tax implications stands at $237m and the next threshold level comes into play at $246m. If they sign a player to a $30m AAV contract they will be paying a 42% tax on the first $9m and then a 75% tax on the remainder. In essense, if they add $30m to their payroll it will cost them just about $50m. Even if they grab a player at the same AAV as JD ($22m) it would still cost them $35.5m in real money. And they still don't have a closer.

Boston is going to have to open the vault to keep that team together soon. Nolan just got 26 million in Arb what will Mookies Betts get next year?

They are gioing on the "cheap" for a bullpen arm because they have a big payroll...and getting bigger... If they can't sign a closer they sure cabn't buy a big bat...nor do they need another bat.

Life is better when the Yankees win !

With spring training two weeks away, the Red Sox still have a glaring weakness in their bullpen

The luxury tax hit is why.
