Out with the old; in with the new as they say.

The future is progressive, and despite the kicking and screaming, I think it's good the Kate Smith version is history:

It's grossly reminiscent of a time when America was blatantly racist and the only 'gentlemen' were white men. She recorded some pretty offensive content (whether it was satirical or not), and her 'rendition' will always be associated with a morally 'dated' America.

Besides, the song was plain awful anyway. It wasn't pleasant on the ears one bit and after a thousand or so listens, a change was long overdue - just as a matter of musical taste.

Even from a business perspective, it makes sense. Why would the Yankees want to associate themselves with content that could be construed as racist? The name of the game is marketability.

I really don't understand how people are so butt-hurt about this.

There is a Kate Smith thread in the political forum.  Where you're welcome to add your comments from either side of the aisle. Although it's hard to bring up Kate Smith without injecting politics, we aim to keep this zone political free.

A Kate Smith thread on the Yankees forum has it's limitations where opinions can be politically charged.  For that reason this thread doesn't belong here...where one is restrain within the confines Yankee centric discussions.

Whoops, sorry.

Like you mentioned, it's weird that the thread is even in here as it's such a narrow plank to walk to add something constructive yet remain unpolitical.

Old folks?  I love Sinatra, I have a huge collection of his works.... it reminds me of the time where my dad spins his LPs.

Sinatra liked sex with teens - I'm sure a few were shy of their 18th birthday - shall we ban the playing of NYNY?

Don't they play that Jay Z song "Empire State" at the stadium? He is as racist as they come.

"Centerfield" would be appropriate, or perhaps they could use this version....

I'm glad it's gone ...I hated it. One of the worst renditions of any song ever written.

Let's get back to the grounds crew doing YMCA

Get back? They never stopped doing the YMCA. It's getting a little tired imo, they need a new routine.  Isn't  YMCA politically  invorrect?? Shouldn't  it be YMWLGBT? Undecided

YMWLGBT?

When you say things like that you are validating only cisgender identification and exhibiting binarist privilege!

Some famous rappers are often at Yankee Stadium sitting in the luxury seats - these rappers made millions and in many of their songs they repeatedly use the N word, will the Yankees ban them from The Stadium?

$$$$$$ !
