The Yanks are beating bad teams, and struggling to hit against good ones. Once the regulars are back, Urshela is a backup.

Let me toss out another possibility: By July 31 could Gio Urshela be the guy who other teams want ? That could be just about the same date that Didi Gregorius is ready to take over at SS, moving Gleyber Torres over to 2nd and leaving DJ LeMahieu available for 3rd.

With Estrada and Wade still in the system infield depth would be available in house.

do what with Andujar?

It is not inconceivable that both Urshela and Andujar could be traded later in the year. And you could put Clint Frazier in that group too. The suggestion that Urshela could be open for trade was not intended to solve the "Andujar problem" but more to propose that anything should be on the table to get pitching.

If they believe that Gio is "real" I don't see trading him as a viable option.  He's not a .340 hitter, but if he can hit .300 and play gold glove level defense, they need to start thinking about him as a long term piece.  That would mean Andujar either learning to play OF, DH or being used to acquire a top starting pitcher.

Andujar needs to start hitting again before anyone will want him.

So, who do you bench to put Urshela, a .225 lifetime hitter, as a starter? (batting eyelashes)

"The most popular guy on the bench is the backup QB". It applies to baseball, too.

Urshela is currently 28 for 79, a .354 BA.  Assume he stays in the lineup for the entire season and gets another, say, 400 ABs.  If he went 106/400 he would end the season at .280.  would you leave hima t 3B for the rest of the season if he hits .265 (106/400) the rest of the way?

The guy is hitting 354. Let me say that again. The guy is hitting 354.

I know of no sport when someone is replaced as a starter because he had not played well in orevious seaons.

Personal I am not much for the strike out, strike out, strike out strike out, strike out strik out, HR tempalte the yankees used last year.

The yankees never "manufactored" runs last year. They do this year, regularly.

Last year we did not have one regular bat over .300.

Let's wait to Urshela drops under .500 before we have this conversation. At that point he becomes equal to the best we had all last year.

So to have this conversation now is kinda silly, no?
