Stroman going to the Mets...

I think the Mets are in a good position this morning. They can fall asleep and at worst they start 2020 with a five deep rotation led by a CY winner still in his prime and a comp draft pick for Wheeler. Bullpen arms are always available and the Mets have a left handed power hitting first baseman to deal this offseason to upgrade their situation in center, at catcher or at SS. Or they can start dealing and adding talent this afternoon.

They're not dealing Pete Alonzo. He is their Aaron Judge.

Edit: just noticed you said left handed. Never mind.

1)   The reference was to Dominic Smith. I'd love to see him in the Bronx just for the balance factor in my lineup. Making him a bad left fielder discounts his value and hurts the Mets.
2)  Don't assume anything with their GM. I think the guy would move Alonzo if he liked the deal.

3)  In the right trade any player can be moved. We all love Judge today...but soon he will want to be paid and as with Jeter, the stories about his faults will start.

So let me get this straight,  Jays insist on Yankees super star 2B in  trade for Stroman ( that's never going to happen) but is willing to settle on two unproven prospects from Mets?

The Mets have the worst or second worst farm system in the majors. By acquiring Stroman, the Mets now have three or four of the most tradeable starters in a market that is desperate for starters. The Mets will never do it because the Mets never do anything bold, but the Mets could transform their farm system from one of the worst to one of the best by trading DeGrom, Syndergaard, Wheeler, and Stroman for prospects. The Astros and Padres have two of the top five farm systems in baseball, and they would gladly trade a boatload of prospects for either DeGrom or Syndergaard. With this acquisition of Stroman, the Mets have become king makers at this trade deadline.

At the same time, I wouldn't be surprised if the Mets only trade Stroman and get lesser prospects than they gave up to get him, because the Mets are gonna Mets.

I feel similarly. They deplete their already weak farm system for one of the top pitchers available before the trade deadline. If the Mets were to trade Syndergaard and flip Stroman, chances are they would get much better and/or more prospects than they gave up for him. This would be smart, if this is what they actually do. However, they are the Mets for a reason.

And to top it off (according to Buck Martinez) Stroman apparently went off in the clubhouse when he found out about the trade. He wouldn't talk o the media after the game either. He openly has been saying he wanted to go to the Yankees and cleqrly expected that would be the case... Not sure his heart will be in playing on the wrong NY team now.

If Stroman handles Shea maybe we sign him for 2021.

Thank you posting that. It strains credibility to suggest that Toronto wanted so much more from the Yankees, or Red Sox or Astros or anyone else than the return they got from the Mets.
