who said Toronto asked for Torres?

Thank you posting that. It strains credibility to suggest that Toronto wanted so much more from the Yankees, or Red Sox or Astros or anyone else than the return they got from the Mets.

A Jays beat writer also refuted it, so it was reported both ways.

The truth is we won't ever really know for sure

That's a terrible way to run your organization, if true

What about Syndergaard? If the Yanks ask the Mets will Bleed the Yanks although I bet Syndergaard wants out of the Mets organization but he has no say.

What if he just tosses meatballs until they trade him? I'm not saying it's a good strategy or that has a good look to it, but could a player be penalized for that?

If I were stuck on a garbage team (although they aren't THAT garbage), I'd want to shoot myself.

Yes, MLB through the office of the Commissioner could clearly discipline someone for throwing meatballs to get himself traded or released.

What if Cashman were to say publicly to sportswriters--and assuming he doesn't trade for someone like Bauer at an exhorbitant price in talent--"It's looks as if we're going to have to go the FA way in the off-season to get the pitcher we want"? Wouldn't that signal to free-agents like Bumgarner and/or others that there was a good chance that, finally, Hal was willing to spend big to get whom we want? Would that be illegal? How much is MLB willing to censor saying what's on a team's GM mind in this era? The Yanks should go to their $$$ strength and stop this self-imposed economic contraception--in some way, the result of Hal's wish to mitigate his father's precedent. Time to change, Hal. Of course, I'm not a multi-billionaire.

Actually, most players today see it as a job that'll last 10 years if they're lucky. So...make as much as they can in that relatively short period of time. That's why guys like Cano sign with Seattle, Machado with San Diego, and Corbin with Nats. Can't really blame 'em.

Well, it's generally acknowledged that the Mets are a terribly run organization, so that fits.

They shouldn't be doing things for reasons like that, but if you're asking me if it's possible....yes, it's possible. A little over 15 years ago, the D'backs put Schilling on the market, and demanded a much higher price in prospects from the Yankees than they accepted from the Red Sox. The reason was different, but teams do occasionally stiff themselves over a perceived slight or wrongdoing by another organization. It happens. And that's apart from not wanted to help a divisional rival who has a huge advantage in resources already. The Jays have more justification in not wanting Stroman to pitch against them 4-5 times a season, and because they may feel that Stroman was hinting he wanted to be traded to the Yankees. So they gave him what he seemed to want: New York. Just not the way he wanted it.
