WHO STAYS, WHO GOES?

DiDi Gregorius
Edwin Encanarcion
Brett Gardner
Aaron Judge
Aroldis Chapman

Well lets get Judge's name off the list right away, he isn't going anywhere. He will be a Yankee.

Didi I would sign.

Chapman and Encanarcion, No.

Gardner? Maybe sign him for 1 more year ? Either way, I am ok with it.

I hope that Encarnacion is as far from the Yankees as the East Coast of the USA is from the West Coast of the USA. I was perplexed and against the move from the beginning, though I was willing to see what he had to offer. Clearly, he didn't meet my expectations especially when it actually mattered. I'll give him the one game in the ALDS against Minny, but that's it.

I pretty much agree with most of that ... but I would keep Chapman ... and I also would definitely give Gardner one more year.

But I have to say that Didi will have to take a reasonable contract, otherwise I would let him walk.

Good point about DiDi. I just think he is a dam good short stop And works real good with Gleyber in the double play combo.

How are you doing MO

I think Didi goes, Encarnacion goes, If Gardner is not signed for the 4th outfielder which I would think he will be, then they may keep Maybin. Depending on his S T Tauchman should be the permanent  left fielder and Stanton the DH. I would however try and send Stanton to the Dodgers with Frazier as the trail runner in the deal, and  pay 20% of Stanton's salary yearly and that should do it. Getting rid of 80% of Stanton's salary would help defer some Cole money. If not the Dodgers for Stanton, maybe San Diego. Chapman goes along with Betences and I co sign that. I just want to add that I'm sure you having Judge on that list was a typo correct? lol.

I want some of what you are smoking if you think the Dodgers (or San Diego) will take Stanton and 80% of his salary.  Obviously good stuff.

my 2c

Didi accepts the QO

Gardner back on a 1 year deal

Chapman opts out and leaves

Encarnacion leaves

One you missed - Betances.  I honestly have no idea.  I thought maybe offer him the QO because it only ties them to him for one year and allows them to be sure he is healthy (and effective) before offering him a multiyear deal.  But $17+ mil for a set up guy, seems a bit pricey.

judge isn't a free agent. think maybe he's arbitration eligible but isn't a free agent until 2023.

EE costs $5 mil to get rid of. they're certainly not paying the $20 mil team option for him to play.

didi get a great job stepping into a difficult situation with huge shoes to fill. performed admirably. certainly a sentimental and fan favorite, but if we're making a serious run at cole, then we have to look for cost efficiencies. didi probably goes and perhaps our IF next season is voit 1B, DJLM 2B, torres SS and urshela 3B.

gardy played an invaluable role this season having one of his best seasons. again tough decisions have to made and didn't like his disappearing act during the post-season so thinking he goes. there are certainly more cost-effective 4th outfielder options - maybe tauchmann.

little game of chicken w chapman. not sure he's opting out but if he does, probably move on. his fastball velo is declining and wouldn't wanna be committed for more than the current 2 years. despite the altuve HR, he is still one of the elite closers in the game.

betances is also a free agent and was missed during this post-season but he's not in a postion of strength. they can let him walk but my sense is they'll work out a team friendly 2 yr deal. not worth the QO.

IMO this would be ahuge mistake. The infield with Didi playing versus Voit is dramatically better both defensively and offensively. I could see this team winning 5 - 10 more games with Didi. I like Voit's passion, but the team is better with Didi.

I also think if Andujar is healthy they must find a spot in the order for him. If that means they have to play Stanton in left, so be it. We all knew Stanton would be an albatross, but I think most of us thought it would be another 2 or 3 years down the road.
