Since ESPN has reported that Strasburg has or will opt out: www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/27993240/sou... If you were able to sign one of the two top tier pitchers, which would you go all out to sign?

I wouldn't be unhappy with either, but if the offers were of equal value and I had to choose I would go with Cole, who is 2 years younger and has less of an injury history. Strasburg did not opt out of a contract with $100M left over 4 years to sign for peanuts, so let's face it, the sky is teh limit for these 2. I am guessing they may get similar per year offers with Cole's being longer, maybe something like: Cole: 7 years @ $35M Strasburg: 5 years @ $35M I don't buy into the talk that they will necessarily end up in SoCal. I live in San Diego and don't see the Padres spending that much on Strasburg, with teh contracts they currently have in Machado, Hosmer, and Myers. I do think the Angels may try to make a splash with a Cole signing, but they have been burnt as much as any team with long term contracts such as Pulhols and Hamilton. They Yanks should sign one of these two, and if they fall short, then MadBum.

Same exact money and years you would have to go with Cole ... but it won't be the same and Strasburg will be the most likely to be able to make a deal with.

Either. Just get one of them.

I like Stasburg! Total big game pitcher. Just does his job.

I'd go for Ryu from the Dodgers.

Cole. Can't predict the future, but Cole seems to be more durable.
I miss the George Steinbrenner no luxury tax off seasons because he would have tried to sign both of them.

It is always about the money. Last year we paid over market to acquire J.A. Happ. By the end of the year we were afraid to use him but the team could do it because guys like Judge and Sanchez carried artificially low salaries. That era is coming to an end. I would not be surprised if the Yankees start 2019 with the parts they already own...Severino, Tanaka, Paxton, Happ, Montgomery, German and hope that Garcia or Schmnidt develop enough to help either by use or trade.

That's the name of the game it's a business... The worst thing is how Ca$hman/Owners/Fans have put players like Sanchez, Judge, Torres on such a pedestal that when their time comes they'll have to be paid more than they'll most likely be worth, or be like the Tampa's, Twinkies etc. and let them walk.. This game is slowly becoming a game of how much your farm system produces and how long you can keep control ?? That is if the organization doesn't want to pay the luxury tax for a lot of years or slip to a .500 or less team ??

I think the game is quickly becoming a game of how much your farm system produces. The salary cap really limits what you can do with free agent signings unless you have an ample supply of low cost players.
