No to Didi

Not issuing Didi a qualifying offer does not preclude the team from re-signing him.  Who knows, they may have a 1 year deal worked out to bring him back at a rate lower than the $17.9M it would have cost them.  He is looking to restore his numbers in order to pursue a long term deal, so that could be a win/win situation for Didi and the team.

You could well be correct. Cashman could be banking on the soft market for SS this year in the hope of getting Gregorius for a better price. All I am reminding folks is that Didi's upside is very high.

Makes me sad. I really like Didi, as a player and even more as a person.

But he'll be 30 in February. The Yanks got what was probably his peak, ages 25-29. He still doesn't command the K zone. When he loses some bat speed, he'll be a bench player. When he loses some more, his career will likely be over.

Torres at SS is a big defensive downgrade. way too nonchalant for my liking.

If they do not sign Didi the team gets worse defensively at SS and 1B. LeMeheiu is the best 1B and Didi is superior to Torres. Plus you lose a good LH bat in a RH heavy lineup. If Didi leaves it's a big step back IMO.

A better portion of the team didn't show up in the ALCS.

He certainly didn't help the cause, we need a fresh face.

Agreed. Torres isn't a great SS. I don't know if I would give Didi $17.9 mil either, until he gets a bit better. If he goes, I'll miss him!

The kid is 22 years old. SS is his original  position. The Yankees moved him to 2nd base because of Didi. Torres defense will improve greatly with more discipline and coaching and practice with DJ at 2nd, which is DJ's natural position.. Torres will improve this year once they stop bouncing him from position to position and messing around moving him up and down in the line up. This kid has more upside than anyone in the game right now IMO. Maybe Soto is his close 2nd. As soon as the analytics stop messing with the consistency of this team they will get much better on defense.

What about the mental lapses? Torres is an offense first player, better at 2B. We need Didi at SS.

Mental lapses come from lack of focus. If he is constantly moved all over the place that does not give this kid any comfort zone and his mind wanders who knows to where. Where he is hitting? Where he will play tomorrow, what is his girfriend doing? He is 22. What were you at 22?  Yes he is an athlete however it doesn't mean you still don't day dream at times. Didn't you at 22? Once again, bro, he is better at 2nd base only because he has been there for basically two years and taken out of his element at SS and relearned a position and now has to re learn what he was and go back to it.

DJ also is a better 2nd baseman than first baseman and anyone that hasn't seen DJ look awkward at times at 1st base is not paying attention. He is a gold glove 2nd baseman. Not 1st baseman. Torres natural position is SS and consistency breeds consistency not playing a different position every other day week or month. Versatility is one thing the Analytics preach but it sure as hell doesn't mean it works for certain players does it. They are not robots.
