Cashman talks Andujar and a little Didi

As reported by Bryan Hoch Cashman spoke about several Yankee players and Miguel Angujar was finally in the Discussion by the man himself. He never actually said "first base" was a possibility, but said "an infield corner" somewhere, or as a DH or in the outfield somewhere. Vague as it all is, it is nothing we all haven;t discussed but at least Cashman's talking about it says Andujar's bat, to me is not going anywhere. Rightfully so.

Here is what he said.. Quote: "If it wasn't for Ohtani, he'd have been rookie of the year two years ago." Breaking certain records held by Joe DiMaggio and stuff- it was pretty impressive. ? Cashman also said, when Andujar was first here he was, like " "Wow this guy is to good to send down." How can we keep his dynamic bat?"

Hoch reported that Cashman said he made early contact with Didi Gregorius' agent Jim Murry regarding a reunion, the GM also noted that Gregorius and the Yankees were unable to find traction on a potential contract extension this past spring. So that's most likely why they didn't make him a Q O. Sounds like Didi wants to test the market.

Urshela and Andujar are projected to compete at third base, Luke Ford and Bird are in line to battle for reps at first with DJ taking over at 2nd while Torres slides to SS. Other infield contenders are Estrade and Wade. So,.. just thought I would pass all that along.

That last bit about the possible changes were all  according to Hoch. Like it hasn't been discussed on here a million times.? Again, from what Cash actually said,  I get from all this Andujar isn't going anywhere trade or otherwise. I agree 100%. Never did think he was. Just don't want to see him at first, obviously. As for Didi it doesn't look to positive for his return due to what he may be offered elsewhere. I think Didi may surprised about that IMO.

Andujar was limited to 12 games this past season as he dealt with some major shoulder issues. During that time Gio Urshela emerged as the team's everyday third baseman. Cashman mentioned first base and outfield as possible spots to get Andujar's bat into the lineup. A lot will depend on his health come spring. Andujar posted an .855 OPS with 27 homers back in 2018.

“Because of Urshela, it gives us some things to kick around,” Cashman said. “If Gio continues to hold that position, you're going to want to see if you can find that way to get [Andújar’s] bat in that lineup. Can he play first? Can he play the outfield? You know, you start playing with those mind games.”

You don't know the old "L'il Penny" commercials? L'il Penny was voiced by Chris Rock.
