I don't believe at all that the government organizations can't be influenced.  However, how can you accuse me of spreading disinformation if I'm spreading information that is given to us by those agencies?  Do you have some other source of information to the contrary?  Right now, my company's response to COVID-19 is based upon information provided by the CDC and the NYSDOH.  If you think that they can't be trusted, well, I don't know what to tell you.

He wants to put the minutiae of our daily lives in the hands of bureaucrats but doesn't trust them.  The most disturbing part is he shouldn't.

The problem is that he's right; they shouldn't be trusted.  However, when the CDC and NYSDOH largely agree on the progression of the virus, I would say the information is largely accurate.

New York's response though is dumbfounding.  They're closing down all places of gathering in a 1 mile radius of New Rochelle for 2 weeks.  One thing that isn't mentioned is that the radius includes a largely Jewish community that is celebrating Purim today.  Do you not think that those individuals are either going to either disregard his order or just go to other communities and congregate?  The only thing that does is put people who are likely infected in other large gathering areas.

CDC urges elderly to stock up on food, stay home amid coronavirus fears

Elderly Americans and people with underlying health conditions should stock up on food and prepare to isolate themselves at home since they are the most at risk of getting seriously ill from the coronavirus, a senior health official said Monday.

Messonnier said the findings from the study determined that about 15 to 20 percent of the Chinese patients studied developed serious illness.

Risk of serious illness increased for patients 60 and older and was the highest for people 80 and older.

Existing health conditions, such as diabetes and heart disease, also increases the risk.

People in these high-risk categories should avoid close contact with people who are sick, avoid crowds in poorly ventilated spaces, and avoid all non-essential travel like plane trips, according to the CDC.

The advice is part of new recommendations from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention aimed at the most vulnerable populations and stems partly from a new study of 70,000 Chinese patients with the virus.

“Have enough household items and groceries so that you will be prepared to stay home for a period of time,” Nancy Messonnier, a senior CDC official, said in a conference call Monday.

If it's half as contagious as SARS then why is the media getting everyone in to a panic?

There must be some uterior motive, I wonder what it could be....?

Come on Art..... Media?  This report is generated from CDC....

Where was the frantic coverage for SARS?   For the Swine Flu?

Why wasn't the media pushing 24/7 when those broke out?  Why didn't we hear stories like this every second to the point of creating a panic?

If government agencies can't be trusted then why do you want to ceed control of our daily lives to them?

I guess I didn't read those posts. Can you please give an example of anyone here wanting to ceed control of their daily lives to government agencies?

Also, some in the military lied about the Vietnam War, that doesn't mean that our country shouldn't have a military.

As nearly every sentient being in the country knows, we have a rogue president and administration in place now that has made lying to the people a daily occurrence.  Just as we cannot trust our own president to tell the truth, we have to believe that he is continuing during this crisis to pressure other people and agencies to lie to keep their jobs.  This is the most serious crisis we face as a nation...worse than any virus.  But the coronavirus has once against brought our dilemma clearly into focus.

The conservative publication, "National Review", hits the nail on the head regarding Trump's "leadership" during the coronavirus crisis:

"In a serious public-health crisis, the public has the right to expect the government's chief executive to lead in a number of crucial ways: by prioritizing the problem properly, by deferring to subject-matter experts when appropriate while making key decisions in informed and sensible ways, by providing honest and careful information to the country, by calming fears and setting expectations, and by addressing mistakes and setbacks.

"Trump so far hasn't passed muster on any of these metrics."

The White House's Resident Stupid gave a speech last night that was supposed to calm and reassure Americans.  What a disaster it was!  Lies, misinformation, missteps, xenophobia...showing, once again, that our president is completely overmatched by the demands of the office.

Wow...Trump blaming Europe for the spread of corona virus..suspending all flights from Europe for one month..with exception to UK.

Locking the barn after cows are release to pasture. The focus should be on testing and preparing hospitals for what's to come.

The focus should be on containment.  That's what the experts say.
