Glad to hear about   your personal stance.  However, there is a significant difference between the real concern for the Black lives being needlessly lost and putting that into words and an endorsement for an organization named BLM.  Do you really think it's incumbent on the Black community to change those words to something like "Black lives are too important to be lost to police brutality."?

I don't think it's incumbent on the Black community to do anything but I do think it's incumbent on them to have an understanding that many of us support changes but do not want to be associated with the BLM organization.  Republicans are literally being shamed because they won't pledge their support to this organization.

No, they are being shamed because they can't articulate a sincere statement that leads anybody to believe they really care what is happening to the Black community.  Any one of them, from the top on down, could have responded when recently asked to state that "Black lives matter" by stating in similar words that wouldn't be spelling out the initials of the movement.  "All lives matter" sounds like a suspicious dodge and a dog whisper nod to the right-wing racists that make up a significant portion of their constituency.

Well, I'm not sure about that.  I've heard many people shaming Republicans simply because they won't say "Black lives matter".  From my perspective, about 7 in 10 patients I treat are persons of color (more Hispanic than Black, but the number of Blacks is significant).  I know in my heart that I've treated the tens of thousands of patients I've seen the same way, regardless of race.  However, I'm also completely aware of the statistics.  I know that Black patients get pain relief less often than whites or Hispanics.  I don't think it's an overt effort but it there is a perceptional issue that doesn't go away overnight.  Realizing the issue is the first step.

I treated a Black patient just the other night that led me to have a conversation.  Both my partner and I saw the patient as a threat and while I can't go into the medical aspects obviously, we were both apprehensive approaching the patient.  As it turns out, I was able to deescalate the situation immediately, get the patient to the hospital safely and without any confrontation.  After the call, I talked with my partner about our feelings about him being a threat and if it might have been because he was black.  We discussed things that we saw as we approached the patient and we were in agreement that it was the scene and presentation that made him threatening, not his color.  I don't think that conversation would have happened a month ago but I think it's a healthy start to actively assess your emotions and address the issue of racce.

Trump Has Dismantled More Monuments Than Any Protest

The president is threatening 10-year prison sentences for anyone who vandalizes a monument. He has destroyed four himself, including one honoring Native American cultural heritage.

But it is Trump who has done the most damage to national monuments, dismantling or desecrating four federally protected land and water sites with significant cultural, archeological and natural resources.

Those rollbacks include carving more than 2 million acres from a pair of protected national monuments in Utah — Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante ― in December 2017. The boundary of Bears Ears, a 1.35 million-acre landscape that several tribes consider sacred, was cut by 85%. Nearby 1.87 million-acre Grand Staircase-Escalante, the largest land national monument in the country and rich in both archeological and paleontological resources, was cut roughly in half. This month, Trump signed a proclamation to greenlight commercial fishing within Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument, a vast protected site off the East Coast ― a move that goes against the very purpose of designating a marine sanctuary.

Even worse than any statue being destroyed, donald has destroyed the good name of the US with all the rest of the free world, that's going to be a lot harder to replace than a chunk of cement or anything else...

Speaking of statues, Trumpet has a lot in common with them.

He has an orangey, bronze patina. He is a hardheaded numbskull. His has no soul or empathy. He can't speak or reason. His head is hollow yet he is quite heavy.

And he will come toppling down with the publics help in just 203 days. Tick tock, tick tock.

Yep, they got fired. “We have zero tolerance for racism or discrimination in any form,” the sandwich chain said.
