Blue Jays Denied Canadian Approval To Play Games In Toronto

The Canadian government has denied the Blue Jays approval to play games in their home city of Toronto during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a report from Rob Gillies of the Associated Press. While the Blue Jays were given the go-ahead by the city of Toronto and the province of Ontario to host regular season games at the Rogers Centre, they were still awaiting clearance from the Canadian federal government.

As of now, the likely outcome is that the Blue Jays pivot their regular season games to Buffalo, the home of the franchise’s Triple-A affiliate. Dunedin, Florida, where the team holds Spring Training, has also been floated as an alternative.

I find it's a little hypocritical with Canada.
They just announced today they will not allow any major league baseball games to be played in Canada this season, so no games for Toronto Blue Jays Because of Coronavirus restrictions.

Why is it ok for hockey, but not baseball

Hockey played at indoor arena is a more dangerous venue than baseball...and indeed more physical contact is involved

Yes Lola Beleive me I know that hockey is Canada's game for sure.

I am a BIG Hockey Fan. Played the game and love it.

To give you an example, many years ago my wife and I were on vacation and we met a family from Montreal, who's son plays hockey. We went out to dinner one night and my wife tells them, My husband drives me crazy about the Rangers and Hockey.

The women from Montreal tells my wife in Montreal a Mother has 2 wishes for her son,  that he becomes an NHL hockey player or a priest, and in that order.

It's not a double standard.  Hockey players will come into Canada once and be screened.  Baseball players would be crossing the border several times, sometimes from COVID hotspots.

Hockey can be played in a bubble.

Baseball cannot.

Blue Jays will probably play in Buffalo.

From NBC Sports:

"It was reported earlier this week, that the Blue Jays have reached out to the Buffalo Bisons, the Blue Jays' Triple-A affiliate, to explore the possibility of Toronto's home schedule being played in Buffalo. Toronto has been the Bisons' parent since 2013."

The Bisons park seems like the logical and probable landing spot for the Blue Jays. From pictures, it looks quite nice, and the small capacity is a non-issue this season.
