Way to go Luke!! Just a game winning sac fly after a major battle against their pitcher fouling off 7 or 8 pitches til he got one to drive to the outfield. Ho hum. So predictable Luke. Just another big hit for Hand Luke! Love this guys focus in big spots lately especially. All business.
A real tough at bat that led to the sac fly. So glad the O's decided to pitch to him, as he has been clutch.
Question Jim. If Luke stays hot, which from all indications he just might, and Judge comes back, do you take Judge coming off a long IL stint, and put him back in the 2 hole or do you leave Luke there and put Judge in the three hole where he should be all the time anyway IMO. Your old school, what is your answer to that? If you see this Newinn, what would you do there?
You know, it's interesting that you ask this, as I was just thinking about this very thing today.
Because of how good Voit has been, I'd leave him in the #2 hole, with Judge batting third. However, I will say that if Boone puts Judge back in the #2 slot, Voit BETTER be batting third. I'd also be fine with that, as they both have been the Yankees best hitters this season.
Once AJ, Stanton, and Gio are all back, I'd have this lineup:

Not sure why the O's even pitched to him with two bases open.

Not Jim or Newinn, but I would like to answer your question if you don't mind. Old school thinking would have the best hitter batting third in a MLB line up. So in my opinion, until the Yankees get a true leadoff hitter Torres should lead off, Voit seems to have found a home batting 2nd, and DJ is the best hitter on the team.

No problem Max. Not much to disagree with there except this idea. While Hicks doesn't have much offensive value, what he does have is a decent on base percentage due to his leading the league in walks. He does that well and is selective at the plate and has a good eye for balls and strikes. He does seem to get on base a lot one way or another. He also has speed. SO to me I would lead him off until a real leadoff hitter presents himself. I agree that DJ is being wasted leading off. Don't like it because this team has very few contact guys on it at this point. My recomendation would be this for the first 6 and these guys play every day. They are considered "Starters" on this team. The rest can be adjustable: It's a combo new and old school.
Hicks
DJ
Luke
Judge
Torres
Stanton
I see Jimwest has Judge and Stanton apart also in his line up.

I'm surprised the Orioles outfielder chased that down and didn't let it go for a well deserved hit. He wasn't going to get the runner at home anyways, so give Luke a hit.

I see it a little differently. DJL may be the best hitter on the team but he is also most susceptible to the double play. Voit has been clutch 2nd but his best numbers have been clean up. Judge historically has performed best 2nd and is an OBP machine. My line up would be.

There are actually 8 Yankees with a higher OBP this year than Judge. His OBP this season is the lowest of his career, for the years 2017-2020. His BA and OPS in 2020 are his career best to date.
He is swinging the bat more, not working counts as much, or accepting walks. So with your lineup, I'd switch Torres and Judge, bat GT second, AJ third.
Well the one thing I see that we all have Judge and Stanton separated and a lot of you have Luke 4th and I have him 3rd. Only I have Hicks as lead off and DJ 2nd. I thought the best hitter is supposed to be 2nd if that's the case isn't that DJ?
