Did Higgy just open the Yankees eyes?

We will see. I think they should take a look at what Higgy can do with some playing time while he seems to be locked in at the plate. Gary just isn't getting it done, obviously and maybe Higgy just had a rare good night, and maybe he just is getting used to things back there. Sure made a difference tonight without Tauchman and Gardner or Ford in the lineup.

I mean, yes with this lineup it would be easy to have Sanchez hide and not hurt us in the 8 or 9 hole, hoping he runs into one, but tonight Higgy ran into three. That's not an accident I don't think. Maybe they should find out what it was and let him catch a few games.

probably a career game for higgy but lots of players never have a game like that.

as i said in the game thread, they're very committed to gary but trying to fix him in "real time" isn't working. like you said, they can keep running him out there and with the rest of the lineup almost back to full strength, slotting #8 or 9 probably won't kill the team.

at the end of the day, it was one game and baseball people don't normally make decisions based on one game and as of yesterday higgy was still on the interstate. but it was interesting they started higgy tonite. gary had 2 days off, then caught yesterday. normally he'd have caught tonite but higgy caught instead. might have been because the DH was open so they stuck gary there or they like cole w higgy.

in any case, it'll be interesting to see if they make a move. the clock has to be ticking on gary.

It's the lineup that makes the most sense right now. Frazier is making me a believer as the Yanks regular LF. He adds to a powerhouse lineup. I'd also let Andujar play LF when not Frazier.

The Yankees are commited to him bumper, and the line up we had tonight adding Stanton and Torres to it is lethal for sure. Gary actually has this rep for needing a shove once in awhile from what I read about his mis steps in the minors and of course what happened when Girardi was here with him. That said, and shove aside, he just about got pushed off a cliff tonight with the display by Higgy.lol.. I think that if they give Higgy a few more starts while he is locked in like he is, it may show Higgy just had a good night or he actually has some pop which was the rep on him in the minors that he had HR power at times. SO.. just maybe that will tell the tale on if Higgy has the stuff, and if he does, just how committed are the Yankees to Gary, and it could also get Gary going as well. It will be interesting to see who catches Cole again at least. I think they should start Higgy again tomorrow and sit Gary to be honest.

Sidebar: that last home run by Higgy was no joke, it was more than just a poke, it was as Major League a homerun as it gets by any home run hitter let alone one by a back up catcher, right?. Also Hampfan I agree with you on Frazier!

the first one to center wasn't too shabby either.

actually not sure how they say to higgy tomorrow, "good job kid, you're sitting today." has anyone in the history of the game ever sat the game after hitting 3. he's definitely locked in. agree, think he has to play tomorrow.

It will be interesting to say the least. Also Mark DeRosa who is a great annalist and a big Yankee fan just broke down Judges at bat's yesterday and pointed out something he was doing. While doing so he said that Judge and any player coming back off the IL just needs to get some AB's to get back to what they were doing before going on the IL. DeRosa has a gig he does on that MLB Central show called deep dive where he goes into detail on guys either doing really well and are hot, or guys doing really poorly and in a cold spell and can't hit. He is really good at it. So...he has the same theory any student of the game would have fan or professional and that is GUYS NEED AB's to get into a groove or to hit like they are capable of. They don't need rest coming off a long time without playing.

SO what the Yankees and Boone are doing with Stanton and Judge is not wise looks like, and also may take them longer than necessary to get going. I just wonder why Boone and the Yankees are so insistent about resting these guys. I also think that it leads to a lot of these injuries that haunt the Yankees. We will see what happens with Judge and Stanton with this play a day rest a day play two days rest a day etc. I think it is foolish. Apparently I am not the only one how do you feel about that?

Hard to believe that those 3 homers were flukes ... I think Higgy might have stumbled onto something ... the Yankees need to give him a chance to find out if he did.

Opening eyes, but I'm sure Sanchez put his hands over his eyes every time Higgy came to bat... He has to feel the pressure of Higgy hitting and him striking out just about every time ?? It won't happen because Boone still thinks Sanchez is their # 1 guy, but this team's best offensive team would be last nights lineup with Andujar DH ing would be the best... I hope Judge gets it going before he gets hurt again... Him and Standon just can't stay healthy..

Almost a certainty that Higgy sits tonight, Judge as well.  Unless Boone is "resting" guys coming off the IL after one game on orders from higher up it is just stupid.  If they want Stanton and Judsge to be factors in the post season both need to get as many ABs as possible.

For me, again, unless it is on ordsers from higher up, the resting BS is reason enough to let Boone go at the end of the season unless they win the WS.

One of the praises sang about Higgy while he was in the minors, was that he had some pop that could be developed. Well, more AB's will do that to someone who has the talent but not enough playing time to have it sustain any consistency. For a guy who plays as little as Higgy to come in and do what he did last night is simply hard to overlook.

The other reason he was promoted to the Yankee major league team was due to that pop he displayed in the minors. Times to fish or cut bait with Gary maybe. They had Higgy catch and had Gary DH and hit in the same game, facing the same pitchers and Higgy hit 3 homeruns and Gary had a single in five at bats and Higgy went yard three out of four times with 5 RBI's to Gary's 0. Now, fighting for a 5 spot in the playoffs instead of being the 8 seed, you are Boone what do you do? Let's see if Higgy earned a chance to play again.

I also remember Bird hitting 2 home runs in a game after struggling for weeks coming off the IL, and going 3 for 4 in that game and the next game Girardi sat him. I was so ticked off I called into Kays 3 pm show after that happened and two days later I finally got through and Kay who never hardly agrees with any caller going against the manager agrees with me they never should have sat Bird. PS... He never had a game like that again. Just throwing that little tidbit out there how when your hot to stay hot you play everyday and when your young especially. I also think having Tauchman in and out of games all season has affected him as well. My opinion of course. Awful funny how Frazier is killin' it playing most days isn't it?
