Another disgraceful loss. Four more errors. Hit into 5 double plays. The oppoisng team gets all of 3 hits and they still lose.

This is not a championship caliber team.

He's celebrating!

I switched off the game after the botched bunt This wasn't a game they were going to win.

You are who your record says you are:

32-26. 16-4 vs the dregs (Red Sox, Orioles), 16-22 against everyone else.

I can't stop thinking about how Higgy let the runner get too close to third and then throw the ball in his back....

good lord that was terrible. then he pops up a bunt. if he just gets it on the ground, wade probably scores. and we grounded into 5 double plays.

The Yanks have 4 players in the lineup who strike out 150+ times a year. They don't have a single player who can lay down a bunt with the game on the line.

That's the difference.

And the Yanks lose because they can't play fundamental baseball.

I'll agree with you this time. You have to execute!

agree the team is unbalanced and could certainly use another contact guy (DJLMs don't grow on trees).

but while it seems like we strike out all the time, we don't. we rank #22 in strikeouts. a surpringly low number given we do have 4 guys who K 150 times. meanwhile the rays, who owned us this year, lead the majors with 120 more K's than we have. K's alone are NOT THE DIFFERENCE.

They strike out far too much with RISP and men on base in general. This is not a new problem with this team.

The Rays are 20-11 on the road, and 21-9 vs above .500 teams. Obviously they must be much more offensively efficient overall. They also have  superior pitching.

And for some perspective.

The Marlins lost 105 games last year.

Yanks: 32-26
Marlins: 30-28

The Marlins improved.

The Yanks repressed, even after adding Gerrit Cole.

Apples and oranges. You can't compare a 162 game season to a 60 game season. Chances are better if they played a full season this year the Marlins would be close to 100 losses and the Yankees chose to100 wins. Small sample size to compare the two. Yes, the Marlins have improved some and the Yankees may have regressed some, but the slumps they're going  through are magnified in a short season.

Here's a thought about all the double plays, not just tonight but over the past few games

Trying hard to hit a homerun probably means too much of an upper cut swing, therefore topping the ball.  I think this is true for everyone except maybe DJ, but he did hit into the game ending DP.
