Voting technology company Smartmatic files $2.7 billion lawsuit against Fox News, Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell over 'disinformation campaign'

New York (CNN)A voting technology company swept up in baseless conspiracy theories about the 2020 election filed a monster $2.7 billion lawsuit on Thursday against Fox News, some of the network's star hosts, and pro-Trump attorneys Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell, alleging the parties worked in concert to wage a "disinformation campaign" that has jeopardized its very survival.

"We have no choice," Antonio Mugica, the chief executive and founder of Smartmatic, told CNN Business in an interview about the company's decision to file the lawsuit. "The disinformation campaign that was launched against us is an obliterating one. For us, this is existential, and we have to take action.

"The lawsuit, filed in New York state court, accused Fox, Giuliani, Powell and hosts Lou Dobbs, Maria Bartiromo, and Jeanine Pirro of intentionally lying about Smartmatic in an effort to mislead the public into the false belief that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from former President Donald Trump.

"They needed a villain," the lawsuit said. "They needed someone to blame. They needed someone whom they could get others to hate. A story of good versus evil, the type that would incite an angry mob, only works if the storyteller provides the audience with someone who personifies evil."

Yeah, notice how Congressional Republlicans are continuing to squawk about average Americans getting higher stimulus checks.  A key point in their whiney outcries is that Biden is not a "uniter" because the Dems are using budget reconciliation to bypass GOP obstruction to vote in his Covid relief bill.  The hypocritical Republicans aren't mentioning that they used the same tactic to get their 2017 tax giveaway to the rich & large corporations passed.

Lou Dobbs’ Fox Business Show Is Canceled

The cable network axed “Lou Dobbs Tonight,” hosted by the staunch Trump ally.

Fox Business has canceled “Lou Dobbs Tonight,” a show hosted by the staunch ally of former President Donald Trump.

The show will air for a final time on Friday, the Los Angeles Times first reportedCNN also confirmed the show’s cancellation.

Dobbs, a top-rated host on the Fox Business Network and a fervent Trump supporter, repeatedly gave credence to the former president’s lies that the presidential election had been fraudulent. Dobbs hosted guests who made unfounded claims of widespread election fraud and railed against Republican officials who accepted the legitimate results of the November election.

Dobbs, who is still under contract with Fox Business Network, reportedly won’t appear on other shows moving forward, according to the L.A. Times.

The cancellation comes one day after electronic voting system company Smartmatic filed a defamation suit against Fox Corp., accusing the parent company of falsely reporting that Smartmatic rigged the 2020 election. Dobbs was named in the suit, along with Fox News personalities Maria Bartiromo and Jeanine Pirro.

Representatives of the cable network did not immediately return a request for comment.

So long, Dobbs. Maybe you can peddle your nonsense over at Parler since Trumpet was offered a 40% stake in the social media company while he was still in office. Oops, nerver mind. That deal fell through and Parler has been effectively shut down for spewing right-winged BS.
