Cuomo in hot water

As a former Cuomo aide speaks out not only about mistakes, but the intentional cover-up of mistakes, even moderate Democrats are starting to turn on Cuomo.  It seems to be almost a certainty now that Cuomo's dictatorial powers will be removed when the legislature next opens and calls for an investigation and possible impeachment have come from the State Senate.  Even President Biden, a former staunch supporter of Cuomo, made less than lukewarm comments about him after a Friday meeting.

The tide is turning and you're on the hot seat Andy.  Tick tock.

Amazing how you are so happy about this ... but you don't care about the hundreds of thousands of lives lost under ex-President Trump.

Because "hundreds of thousands of lives" weren't lost under President Trump.  The virus was going to kill people regardless of who the president was or is.  I'm not keeping a daily count and blaming them on Biden.  The truth of the matter is that we were well behind this virus before Trump placed the China travel ban that Democrats were so upset about.  The virus was here months before and no travel ban was going to help stop the spread.

So, my question is:  what could Trump have done differently?  Well, the one thing he could have clearly done is taken the virus more seriously publicly.  He had no authority to issue a national mask mandate (as Biden has learned) but he could have set a better example.  He could have nationalized the procurement of PPE, instead of requiring states to basically bid against each other.  Other than that, there's nothing else he could have actually done.

On the other hand, you have Governor Cuomo.  He made the decision to force nursing homes to take COVID positive patients before they were prepared to do so.  He knew that knowing that more people would die.  I'd even give him somewhat of a pass for that because he was faced with a decision in the city and nearby counties because the hospitals simply could not keep these patients or there would be a greater risk on overall public health.  Where I don't give him a pass is that he did it without notice.  Within hours of Cuomo's decision, I was transporting COVID positive patients back to nursing homes that weren't even yet aware that they were mandated to take them.  They didn't even have the chance to create COVID units or policies, even if they had the equipment to do so.  When questioned about his decision (after reversing it), he falsely claimed that COVID transmission in nursing homes didn't come from COVID positive patients, but from infected staff.  That "study", when finally released via subpoena, was proven to be completely false.  Finally, instead of admitting that a mistake was made, he chose to cover it up.  Even when he was caught red-handed, his b.s. statment tries to blame Trump.

Cuomo is going to lose his dictatorial powers.  That should happen the first day the legislature is in session.  Beyond that, he should be prosecuted for the cover-up.

40% of US Covid Deaths Could Have Been Avoided

The U.S. has the world’s highest tallies of both Covid-19 cases and deaths, which according to a new study can be blamed in large part on the chaotic response to the pandemic by the Trump administration.

That conclusion comes from a panel of more than two dozen experts convened by the independent medical journal The Lancet. The authors say that the U.S. would have avoided about 40% of its 470,000 deaths so far if it had simply achieved results similar to other wealthy, industrialized nations.

“Trump’s mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic—compounded by his efforts to dismantle the USA’s already weakened public health infrastructure and the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) coverage expansions—has caused tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths,” the authors write.

An explanation as to how the US, with 4% of the world's population, has managed to account for over 25% of the world's COVID-19 deaths...

Cute picture.  Unfortunately, that's only a small part of the picture.  As over 50% of the U.S. deaths have occurred in nursing and other care facilities, it was failed policies by governors like Lord Andy, that really fueled the fire.  If you look at a state like Florida, they took an entirely different approach to protecting their residents in nursing facilities and the results are astounding.

I don't know about where you live, but I see plenty of trumpies belligerently walking around unmasked. And yeah, I can tell they're trumpies...so don't bother asking.

I don't see anyone in my area walking around unmasked in public.  I haven't for months.  There are many people wearing masks wrong, though not as wrong as your cute picture, but I don't see many without a mask.
