I have thought this is the guy the Yanks would and should build the team around. 23 years old with a great bat. He was one of the reasons I wasn't that anxious to resign DJ or move DJ back to first and trade Voit so Torres could be moved back to second. Just like I believed Andujar wouldn't cut it as a 3rd baseman, I don't think Torres will ever cut it as a SS.

Now, aside from a lack of range, it looks to me like the position is in his head. You can win with an average defensive ss (Jeter) but I'm not sure you can win with a bad defensive ss. I hope this doesn't become a major problem for the Yankees.

Well my good friend newinn, Bottom line this is not about Jeter, and during the time when Yankees had A Rob at third, we all knew the best shortstop was playing 3rd base. But Jeter was our man.

The problem now is Gleyber Torres, on defense is the same problem we have behind the plate in Sanchez, they just can't be trusted on routine plays. You can get away with that behind the plate more so then at Shortstop.

And shortstop is a major position on any team, and IMO, Yankees have a problem at Shortstop. I don't understand how the Yankees can't see this. I like Torres with his bat, and he can play well enough at 2nd base, but he is a problem at Shortstop.

And Sanchez needs to be made accountable by the Mgr. For his lack,of hustle on the bases. He just is losing and its being ignored.

I'm with you Tony. I was very concerned about his defense at short going into the season and so far he has proven those concerns valid. Hope you're doing well.

By the way, I think the Rangers are a year away from being a serious contender for the cup

I sure don't want him traded. I still believe he is the future of the Yankees and a multi time all star. He looks a bit off balance to me now. Probably needs to cut down on his swing a bit

If you don't mind ... I have to ask ... what exactly do you see that I can't see that makes him the future of the Yankees?

24 years old. Middle infielder that I think will be a close to 300 hitter with pop

okie dokie

And for that very reason Mo, this why Torres is the problem.  Not the rest of the infield. They THINK he is a middle infielder who may hit like they all think he will and really hasn't yet. Came in out of shape last season, now this season is unfocused and a didn't run out a catchers missed called strike 3 "Because maybe he didn't realize it." Laughable for a major leaguer by the way. What major leaguer doesn't look after a called strike three for a free base?

Same discussion regurgitated on the board like last season. Lets rearrange the whole infield for a guy who is SUPPOSED to be a 300 hitter with some pop. They want to move a guy off his GG position, get back a guy who is on the down side of his career, trade away a Player who actually did do what he looked like he could do, all for a "maybe" young unfocused kid.

IMO the Yankees are trying to solve the problem of Torres, not their entire infield. I mean it's great water cooler talk but IMO I think maybe he was brought up to soon and needs more seasoning down in AAA. Let him get his head on straight and get out of his own head. It will be interesting to see what the Yankees do for sure but messing up a whole infield on a maybe is a little drastic I think.

They didn't do it for Adujar and I wish someone could tell me, what is the difference between those two guys other than Urshela and DJLM being in their way right now at the same positions Torres and Andujar play. Just what is the difference? Where is Andujar? Minors that's where. I think letting Torres take a 2 week instructional course in the minors may help that kid. I feel he may have been brought up to soon and got hot right away with the bat. Just a thought but I don't think the answer is messing with what works with guys that actually have proved themselves. Just me I guess.SMH

Well the problem with sending him down is you won't get his head on straight, you will mess it up big league.

I have to admit I'm not as big a Torres fan as most on here ... I don't know the answer, but they have to get him off shortstop.

Torres is not going to be sent down for the reasons you, Bumper and Luv gave in this thread.

The answer to Torres' fielding might be as simple as getting Torres in the habit of charging the ball and not waiting back and fielding the ball on his heels. The other answer might be that playing shortstop isn't for him.

More than ever I think Sanchez is going to get traded just as soon as if and when he ups his trade value.

Mo and Max, I agree they won't send him down, but IMO, has anything else worked with him? I imagine they are working with him, told him to charge the ball, I am sure they talk to him and give him some instruction but it looks like in all everything has seem to mess him up. The GM satiny in the media he was out of shape, his 3 errors in four games, his sluggish bat, his seeming unfocused, Boone talking to him in the dugout after the error even though that may have been a shake it off talk..whatever. It just may be a kid as young as he is, and he needs a wake up call a shake up call. Nothing else has worked to date and now he is in his head about it all. That's the only thing left to do really. You move him now and he is shot IMO. You sit him, and that's worse. Tell him he needs a break, or just give him one. Just a thought on it.

you miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

All is well my friend, Hope the same for you.

Yes the Rangers are really progressing with this young team. The youngest in the NHL. As you know that's my favorite sport. I could talk hockey all day long. But this is the Yankee Forum.

Always great talking to you.

How am I?  I'd complain, man, but who would listen, ya know?  In actuality, I'm great, family's great.  Hope it's the same with you!
