The Yankees went into yesterday's rubber game versus the Rays just a half game up on Tampa Bay. The Bombers' 88-57 record going in was also 7 games better than Boston's.

I really thought Johnny Damon was on his way to Boston after hearing he was claimed on waivers by the BoSox yesterday. There was no doubt despite what Johnny was saying once he was asked about the claim:

"It's probably as tough of a decision for me to take right now as it was for me to leave Boston for New York," Damon said. "It's something that fortunately we have some time to think about it.
