The New York Yankees versus the Oakland Athletics during the past 4 days July 19th – July 22nd was awful to watch. Four consecutive games the Yankees have lost by one run. The Yankees didn’t pitch well or hit well during this EPIC Defeat.
Yankees by the Numbers
As a team the Yankees preformed offensively:
148 At-bats, 10 Runs, 33 Hits, 10 RBI’s, 4 walks issued from Oakland, 37 Strikeouts, 1 Double, 4 Home runs, 1 stolen base, 6 for 25 RISP and .223 (Combined team batting Average).
A-rod was the team’s best hitter during the series.
17 AB, 2 R, 6 H, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 3 SO, 1 (2B), 1 SB, .353AVG
Curtis Granderson and Andrew Jones both went down looking 6 teams apiece.
The Yankees pitching wasn’t much better either.
Our Starters (Garica, Nova, Hughes, Sabathia) combined for 25.6 innings, 28 H, 11 R, 11 ER, 6 BB, 25 SO, 5 HR allowed for a combined 3.87 ERA.
The Bullpen
6.9 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 15 SO, 1 HR (Soriano OUCH) allowed for a combined 3.91 ERA.
Athletics by the Numbers
As a team the A’s preformed much better offensively then the Yankees:
141 AB, 14 R, 37 H, 14 RBI, 8 BB, 39 SO, 5 (2B), 2( 3B), 6 HR, 6 SB, 6 for 33 RISP and .262 (Combined team batting Average).
Cespedes and Crisp both had an .467 avg against the Yankees pitching which played a big role in the Yankees defeat.
The A’s Starters ( Griffin, Milone, Parker and Ex-Yankees Bartolo Colon) combined for 27.2 IP, 26 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 2 BB, 24 SO, 1 HR allowed for a combined 2.32 ERA.
The A’s Bullpen
10.4 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 13 SO, 3 HR allowed for a combined 2.59 ERA.
The A’s had speed and hits when it counted which defeated the Yankees. Which is why I’m surprised the Yankees have decided to trade for Ichiro Suzuki as the solution for this awful series against the Yankees. I guess there would now be fewer at bats for Andrew Jones and Raul Ibanez.
