Some thoughts on Spring Training:
- The Yankees roster is virtually settles with only minor position battles still left to play out so there isn't a whole lot of drama at the Yankees spring home. Gardner looks like he's gonna settle into left field nicely defensively if only he can hit a little.
- Hughes and Joba have both been less than impressive while Gaudin, Mitre and Aceves all threw 2 lights out innings. I still like Hughes as the number 5 and Joba in the pen. If I had to put money on it, that's what I'd bet.
- You know who the two most impressive batting practice hitters are at Yankees camp? (Hint, it's not A-Rod or Tex.) It's Marcus Thames and Jesus Montero. These two have hit some monster BP home runs. Thames has routinely driven balls 450 feet plus to left field while Montero hit some monster left center and center field bombs. Impressive, but I can't wait to see Montero in game action. So far 1 for 1 with a single.
- AJ Burnett gave us another less than impressive outing from a Yankees starter. That's 2 days in a row of Yankees pitchers getting shelled! I realize it's early and it's gonna come around but damn this is when the pitchers are supposed to be ahead of the hitters.
- I love going back and forth between spring training games and ncaa tournament qualifiers. uconn is driving me crazy though! How can a team that's so athletic lose to teams like Providence, South Florida, Cincinnati, and Notre Dame? If it were a track meet uconn would win easily but they play a street game that just gets picked apart by Big East teams!
