[Kei Igawa]

*34 for 121, .281 against non-Japanese players (excluding pitchers) in 2006
-177 for 726, .244 against Japanese+Non-Japanese players (excluding pitchers)

*Igawa allowed 17 HRs in 2006, and 10 of which were hit by non-Japanese (5 of them were hit by Lee (Yomiuri Giants), that Korean slugger who hit 5 or 6HRs in WBC).

*Stats against left-handed batters in 2006: .312 (excluding pitchers)
*Stats against right-handed batters in 2006: .208 (excluding pitchers)

*Igawa pitched a shutout game against Matsuzaka's team (Seibu Lions) in June: 0-7
Matsuzaka thinks Igawa is the best or the second-best lefty SP in Japan (per Sanspo).

Side Notes:
Matsui's career stats against Igawa: .240, 3HR

Hi I am new to the boards and I must say the jury is still out for this guy. It looks like he does good against right handed batters but not against lefties. That won't be good when were playing home with the short right field porch.

To me, there are 2 primary objectives with having Igawa in the rotation, and those are (1) him having a record decent enough for a 4th or 5th starter and (2) eating up those extra 40-60 innings a year that Jaret Wright couldn't. If he can do both of those things, he'll be OK in my book.

Per AP,
Cashman had a phone conversation w/Igawa's agent, Arn Tellum today; Cashman told him that he expected Igawa to be a part of the rotation.
Yanks are still looking to acquire anohter SP: Gil Meche, Andy Pettitte, and Lily.

We may see three lefties in their rotation next season.
