Alright, everyone keeps talking about needing a back up catcher, and one that can hit some. What I want to know, is how come no one thought of this idea sooner?? A guy to look into, is Doug Mirabelli! Signing him would give us a good backup, he'll help the staff and when he plays, he'll hit. He's a good catcher..and YES, he'd take away from the Red Sox...not to mention he always hits us.

Anyways, Barajas, Mirabelli, and Pratt seem like good choices unless we can somehow pry Laird from Texas.

Yeah Mirabelli is some hitter alright. He hit the facing right off the ball with his .191 average this year. He hasn't hit over .230 since 2004 and he's only hit over .250 4 times in his career (2004; .281, 2003; .258, 2001; .270, 1999; .253). He's not much of a hitter and doesn't draw many walks (he's never had an OBP over .370 in his career). He'd be a decent defensive backup but if we wanna get an offensive backup, we'd go after Barajas and not Mirabelli.

Barjas will make a good backup. He bridge the gap between Posada and Montero.

I'll take Barajas over Mirabelli anyday. There are no knucklers for him to catch on this team anyway. Anybody else find it strange that the Red Sox made such a big deal in bringing him back last season, and now they are going to let him walk? I guess this means Wakefield is back in the bullpen, especially if they finalize a deal with Matsuzaka.

Mirabelli has some pop but hasnt hit very well lately. He is a decent catcher but he wouldnt be much of an upgrade from Fasano, Flaherty or stinnentt
