Previous MVP winners will be able to repeat under the new rules, something that was prohibited by the AL in the 1920s.

1935- The Yankees traded the hot-tempered P Johnny Allen to the Indians for pitchers Monte Pearson and Steve Sundra, a minor leaguer. Pearson would go 63-27 including a 19-7 mark in 1936 and a 4-0 World Series record, while Sundra went 21-11 over 3 seasons for the Yankees.

Happy Birthday to a real Doctor, George "Doc" Medich

December 9, 1948-
Former Yankees Pitcher George "Doc" Medich (1972-75) was born.
The Yankees in
the 30th round of the 1970 MLB amateur player draft drafted George.
⁈Å"Doc⁈ will post a 49-40 record in 111 games, with the Yankees. The 1974
AL season will be his best Yankees season, when George posted a 19-15
mark. Doc was traded by the Yankees to the Pirates in the winter of
1975 for P Ken Brett, P Dock Ellis, and rookie 2B Willie Randolph. George did get a college degree in Medicine.

Clipper:

Both Moose and Greg Maddux were perhaps the last of the very good cerebral pitchers to leave the modern game. In a world full of arms throwing 90s fastballs, they were living studies of how to get batters out without velocity. Only Jamie Moyer is left now, and Tom Glavine can't be too far from retirement himself.

Thanks Clipper ! Great stuff. The name Bill Sudakis brings back memories for me. My dad and I going to a twi night double header at shea stadium in I think 1974. Sudakis hit a grand slam to help the Yanks win one of the games.

I think the first game started at 5:30 and the second game ended around 10:30 about 2 hours for each game...how times have changed

AL BIAS AGAINST THE YANKEES HAS BEEN AROUND FOR MANY YEARS...

December 10,
1940- In
Chicago, a curious rule that was designed to "break up the Yankees" is
continued by the AL, a rule which prohibits the team winning the
championship from trading with any other AL club. The rule was voted in
at the 1939 December league winter meetings by the 7 other AL owners
after the Yankees had won 4 straight World Series. The major and minor
leagues agree that players taken into the military will not count
against their team roster limits.
