Giants lose linebacker Kiwanuka to broken left leg

DETROIT -- New York linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka broke his
left leg Sunday against the Detroit Lions, and Giants coach Tom
Coughlin said he might be out for the season.

"It's obviously a big loss for us," Coughlin said.

Giants running back Brandon Jacobs was sidelined with a
hamstring injury, but Coughlin said he was not sure how serious it

"We'll have to evaluate that," Coughlin said.

Kiwanuka was hurt when teammate Osi Umenyiora rolled into him
while making a tackle on the second play of the game. He was helped
off the field, keeping his left foot off the ground, and was later
taken toward the locker room on a cart.

X-rays revealed Kiwanuka broke his fibula.

Late in the third quarter, Jacobs limped off the field while
trying to keep weight off his left leg and did not return.

Lions backup safety Idress Bashir injured his right knee on the
opening kickoff and was carted off the field.

definitely not good.

i also hope jacobs is all right.. the idea of reuben droughns being the full time back for any stretch of time is scary.

at least next week eli should be able to pick apart minny's defense, which i think is last in the league in pass defense - if i'm not mistaken.

too bad, Kiwanuka really started to play much better. I hope Jacobs is alright. We can't afford any more injuries, why does this always happen to us. frown
