The Red Sox are just amazing.tongue They spent tons of money for a guy who hits about the same as Nixon and spending outrageous cash on Matsuzaka to be #1. When the Yankees end the season in their rightful place Epstein will once again look like a child.

If you're afraid of a sissy, lugo, a japanese pitcher who may or may not pan out, and a guy coming off a year and a half of injuries, then i just don't see why we should bother playing this season and just forfeit.

would you like him to sign Drew and Lugo? Bc obviously Drew and Lugo are better than Abreu and Jeter...obviously.

and I didn't know they signed Gagne. Did he pass his physical? If he did, the Red Sox have the quite the assortment of injury prone NL players on their squad. Good job once again by the Boy Genius. He's definitely learned from his Renteria mistakes...definitely.

RELAX.

Deep Breath.

One more.

In then out.

Better now? Okay good.

Let's go over a few things here.

1) JD Drew -- Worth 70 Mil? Probably not. A Red Sox need? Yes they needed a right fielder. Does it affect the Yankees? Not particularly. Drew is a slight upgrade over Nixon and he has a hard time staying healthy a full season. Is there 3 - 4 - 5 better? Of course! Ortiz - Manny - Drew is very good. But realize we do have an offense as well Abreu - Rodriguez - Giambi. So don't worry so much about JD Drew.

2) Julio Lugo -- Worth 40 Mil? Again Probably not. Another Red Sox need? Yes they need a Shortstop. Does it effect the Yankees? Maybe? Who knows? However last year in 121 games he batted .278 12 HR 36 RBI and 24SB with a .325 OBP. I wouldn't start trembling with fear. He's going to steal bases. He will hit. But he really is an average player. Again Breath

3) Daisuke Matzusaka -- Worth what he will get? Maybe. A Red Sox need? Look at the bid, what do you think? Does it effect the Yankees? No one knows yet. The truth is we have no idea how Matzusaka will be let alone Igawa who we have. However we do know that Schilling is older and wasn't that effective at times last yr. Beckett gives up a ton of homeruns. Wakefield is coming off being hurt for a year and Papelbon shut it down after 65 innings last year b/c of arm problems and now will be a starter. So the Red Sox pitching is very very enigmatic.

4) Eric Gagne is not a Red Sox. If he succeeds there that is a great signing. He is a tremendous closer. So was Papelbon last year. We have a lineup very few pitchers really can get around. We'll see what happens.

The point I'm making friend is that these moves helped fill needs for the Red Sox. These moves however in no way make this team better then the Yankees. We won our division last year. We will win it agian this year. The Red Sox improved. But how much will 4 players really improve a team that finished in 3rd place. Their pen is still very much in shambles. Their bench is as good as ours. Their lineup is good, not as great as it once was. Their SP is more questionable then ours. The Yankees do not need to make knee jerk reactions. We aren't thinking hey the Red Sox made a move we have to now to. Instead Cash is thinking how he will improve the Yankees. Not how to effect the Red Sox. Have a little faith in what our team looks like. Truthfully we are not in that bad of shape.

Sox may be getting better, but they, like every other team, have lots of questions. Also, they signed two players for $100M who are not locks to be great in Beantown. Outfieldwise, they may have been better served saving their $$$$$ for next winter when Jones, Hunter, Ichiro and Wells may be all on the market.

If Yanks get Pettitte, and sign Igawa, we will have sufficient depth in our rotation--Johnson, Pavano (who will be traded if healthy), plus Kastens, Hughes and Sanchez--plus our pen to be in pretty good shape.

We will need a back-up catcher, righty hitting first baseman and utility infielder--plus hopefully, Bernie will be back. Would go to war with this team.

Ahhh yes. The new panic issue of the week raises its head. The Yankees dont NEED the guys the Red Sox signed. And it's not about the Red Sox, it's about the YANKEES and what THEY do. Making moves for the sake of making moves is just plain stupid. If Cashman had made any of the moves you are complaining about, he would BE stupid. The Yankees need pitching. Unless JD Drew and Lugo can pitch, I'd say you could stop complaining about those moves. As for Gagne, you want to take a flyer on Gagne instead of Mo? And even if Matsuzuki is the second coming of Smokey Joe Wood, the Red Sox will have a net game of two or three wins for 100M. The Red Sox are making a lot of moves because they HAVE to. When you ad it up, it's just more noise over guys who are no better than Coco Crisp.

Wake up Cashman? What exactly would you like him to do, sign a shortstop, a right fielder, and a closer? Funny, I was under the impression the Yankees were pretty much set at those positions.

The sox replaced nixon with nixon....anouther words drew just replaces him...no worry the upgrade was a small one. lugo is a down grade FROM GONZO. Boy did they let a good one get away.

MATSUSOXAKA was agood move but at a very high price. Still no closer, and one massive headach called manny still there. I use to worry alot about the 2003-2004 sox but there is nothing to worry about with these moves that they made.
