Our beloved Willie Randolph #30 is waiting for the axe across town. I had some ideas which I wanted to float around, and get your opinion.
There is still 1 more interleague game at Yankee Stadium between the Yankees and Mets. On that day, the Yankees should make it Willie Randolph day. They should retire his # in monument park (maybe this is too much), bring his family and teammates (Reggie, Nettles, Dent, Rivers, Guidry,Don Mattingly, Dave Winfield) onto the field. Everyone will give speeches how the Yankees appreciated the way Randolph played and was the co captain during the middle 1980's. Randolph will be wearing his pinstriped uniform thanking the Steinbrenner's and the Yankees for the award, and how proud he is of being a Yankee.
Meanwhile the Mets that quit on Randolph will be in the dugout feeling very uncomfortable. Omar Minaya and the Wilpon's will be in the stands feeling even worse. The game will not be important to the reporters. This would be front page of the Post, News, and Newsday. It would go down with Billy Martin at the Old Timer's Day and Roger Clemen's last year.
