I wanna put some thoughts out there on the Mets fanbase to see if anyone else has noticed the same thing.
Has anyone else noticed that The Mets franchise seems to cater to a much younger fanbase than The Yankees do. I don't know but it seems that whenever I'm in New York or even at the malls in Jersey I see a much younger crowd...grade school children wearing Mets gear while the older set (teenagers-adults) are the ones wearing Yankee gear?
Has anyone else noticed this or is this too much of a generalization? - I dunno but to me it seems like a very large portion of The Mets fanbase are children and it seems they have more young children in their fanbase than most other clubs I've seen.
Maybe its the fact that they have a guy with a giant baseball head running around their ballpark but I wouldn't be at the least surprised to see Mr. Met, Santana, Pedro and Reyes show up on Sesame Street one day ;) jk
I've mentioned that I've seen a lot of little kids sporting Mets gear but not a lot of teenagers. Is it possible that young Mets fans as they mature and learn more about the history of baseball become Yankee fans?
I don't know...I don't have an answer why it seems that the Mets have such a young fanbase but one reason may be is that the young Mets fans we are seeing in 2008 are the children of the 1986 era Mets fans where as (in general at least) we have yet to see the children/the young fans of the 1996-2000 era Yankee fan yet.
Any thoughts?
