The great thing about hindsight is that it is always 20-20. So many "experts" have so many opinions on the matter. Where would the world be without "the experts." Guys like Greenspan and Bernanke who predicted the mortgage crisis "would not be that much of a problem." God Bless the "experts."...............I have do idea what I would have done in Joe Paterno's situation. I wasn't there and because I wasn't there I can't comment on it. Guys like Dr Drew know what they would have done though. They got the whole thing figured out. The older I get the less I know.
Walton you must be kidding.. Any sensible person would have gone to the police. Paterno was protecting an old boys network or something worse. We're not talking about stealing pencils, it's the rape of a minor in the locker rooms. If Paterno was fearful of the police publicity he should have castrated the pig himself but instead he allowed him continue on his merry way destroying young lives. It doesn't take a genius to do the right thing here, Greenspan would have called the cops BTW...
Woulda, shoulda, coulda....................I worked in the field of Mental Health and Substance Abuse for over twenty years and dealt with this type of thing {not that often but more often than I wanted too.} Joe Paterno by Pennsylvania Law did what he was required to do. He reported it to his superior. Joe Paterno is 84 years old and he was 75 when he learned of the Sandusky shower incident. I'm not sure how "educated" or "aware" Joe was. It seems so "clear cut" what he should have done in retrospect but alot of times in life the whole scenario isn't as clear to the person involved at the time. I'm not that eager to throw Paterno under the bus. Maybe I'm getting soft. I'm a Democrat yet I don't get any great "charge" over Rick Perry's failure in the last debate. I don't get much joy anymore out of pointing the finger at people. I used to love it but not anymore. I could point the finger at myself over a few things through the years.
I understand what you are saying but this has been going on a long time. Joe knew for sure in 1998 but I would be willing to bet that he knew of problems before that. The depth of this coverup and the insanity of the "penn stater" mentallity is worse than most people think
Rememeber that the guy who didnt prosecute in 1998 DISAPEARED after he had gotten "disguted" with the football program according to a familly spokesperson. The did however find comuter parts one of which turned out to be the hard drive of his laptop but wouldnt you know it someone destroyed it so data wasn't recoverable. But I am sure the law enforcement out there looked for him/ tried to solve that case real hard *rolling eyes*
Reporters have tried to report on this for years but are stonewalled. Hopefully more will come to light but it makes me EXTREMELY suspicious when you have a story that involves dead DAs, child rape, cover up by law enforcement and press not being alowweed freedom.
Happy valley just sounds like a cult doesnt it? IT sounds like an exaggeration but in the end what went on there will look more like a cult than a football program I'm afraid.
I feel bad for all the good people involved in Penn state and were fooled by all the "values" of the people who were supposed to be leaders there. I said in a post before I go there with special olympics teams I coach several times a year and I see so many of them that volunteer their time to make people nobody cares about feel good for a couple days. I really think many many people had the wool pulled over their eyes for a long time by a few dirtbags
