On his Twitter account,
Bill Hall just
tweeted: IT'S OFFICIAL IM A YANKEE!!!!!!!! #IwannaRing!!!!
First, Hall is going to #wannarosterspot.
Hall, a source informs, signed a one-year minor league deal that could be worth $600,000 plus incentives.
If
Eric Chavez is not signed, Hall may have the inside track on the other backup infielder spot, but he will have competition.
Brandon Laird and
Ramiro Pena figure to be Hall's main competition.
A source said that the signing of Hall will not have any impact on if the Yankees were to bring back Chavez or not. Chavez, along with
Raul Ibanez,
Johnny Damon and/or
Hideki Matsui could still be inked by the Yankees before spring training begins.
Hall, 32, played 62 games for the Astros and Giants last season. He hit .210.
Hall’s odds of making the team would go up appreciably if Chavez doesn’t return. The Yankees are still in talks with Chavez. Chavez, 34, hit .263 with two homers and 26 RBIs last season. He played 58 games as his season was shortened by injuries. It was the most games Chavez had played in a season since 2007.
