It was Tuesday, October 3rd, 1978 at around 6am in the morning that I was in my kitchen of my Mom and Dad's home as a 15 yr old kid having his morning Captain Crunch cereal for breakfast when in comes Bucky Dent to see my Dad who was Bucky's theatrical agent at the time getting ready to drive Bucky to the studios of Good Morning America with David Hartman to interview him after his dramatic homerun he hit against the Red Sox in that one game playoff in Boston the day before. I asked Bucky how he felt and he said "Alan, I could have been the hero or the goat but this time I wasn't the goat and just got lucky". I then asked him if he knew it was a homerun once he hit it and he told me "that he thought he hit it well but not nearly enough to clear the wall and that he wasn't sure until he hit first base". Of course Bucky then went on to win the 1978 World Series MVP that year as the Yanks were once again World Champions for the second straight year. I was in complete "awe" of Bucky that morning and all my friends could not believe he was in my house that morning. I will remember that morning the rest of my life for sure and Bucky and I still keep in touch to this day. What a great memory...

The Yankees and Red Sox games are always drastic at my house. I'm the biggest Yankees fan and my brother is the biggest Red Sox fan in the world. Everytime it's the Yankees and Red Sox series, it's utter chaos. If the Yankees win then I usually rub it in my brothers face and if the Red Sox wins then my brother rubs it into my face. I jokingly say that my brother "broke the family" because everyone in my family is a Yankees fan and there he is, the Red Sox fan. So I take the Yankees and Red Sox rivalry personally. :)

My greatest memory of this rivalry was a 10 inning pitcher's duel in May 1976 between Catfish Hunter and Dennis Eckersley. Both pitchers went 9 innings and the Yanks won it in the bottom of the 10th via a Carlos May single. There've been more heated and dramatic games since then but hey, I was there in the stands and got to see two great pitchers yielding nothing for an entire game.

I am a lifelong Yankee fan from Long Island married to a lifelong Red Sox fan from Boston. We have been happily married for 25 years, mostly due to the fact that we do not watch baseball together. We subscribe to MLB Extra Innings, so we can each see our own team play every day. I watch the Yankees on YES in our family room and he watches the Red Sox on NESN outside on our back patio. Even when the Yankees play the Red Sox, we watch the same game but on 2 different channels in the same house. Our families know that for their own good, they should not schedule any family outings during a Yankee-Red Sox series. My favorite Yankee memory growing up was watching the one game playoff on the black and white TV in my bedroom and watching my favorite player Bucky Dent bury the Red Sox with one of his very infrequent home runs. My favorite moment from last season was watching my daughter's favorite player Derek Jeter get his 3000th hit with a game of a lifetime - even though these memories happened 33 years apart, I know she felt just as giddy watching Derek's special day as I did watching Bucky's. I love when MLB Network replays that 1978 game, with commentary from Bucky, Sweet Lou and Mike Torrez. I record it on every TV in the house, and try to sneak it on when my husband's not paying attention. I can fast forward to the exact spot where he hits the home run, listen to The Scooter call it, and switch back to regular TV in about a minute!!

I got married on April 18, 2004 and have a close bunch of friends that I went to college with from Worcester, MA who are all die-hard Red Sox fans. I knew that not only were they planning to all wear Red Sox themed attire such as ties and handbags and the like, but there was actually a game between the Yankees and the Red Sox that day. I decided to up the ante between the close knit group of friends and told them that I had something special planned just for them. Because of a delay in the wedding before mine, my wedding ended up starting almost 45 minutes late. In that time, the Yankees had scored six runs in the top of the third inning as I sat in the limo with my parents listening to the game, not even caring that the wedding was running late. In fact, my dad and I kept "shushing" my mom saying "the game is on!" (And just to note, the Yankees ended up winning that day, 7-3, and I announced the score at the reception.) So we get to the reception and my friends kept waiting to see what the big surprise was that I had in store for them was. Well, it didn't take long. There on their place cards was my "tribute" to their love for the Red Sox. You see, I had sat them all at Table 1918.

Last August, my friend and I finally got the chance to see a Yanks/Red Sox game at Fenway. August 6, 2011 had to be one of the most fun days ever, even if we were in enemy territory. After getting ripped on all morning at the Sam Adams Brewery for being Yankees fans, we made our way down to Fenway. As we're about to get into the park I spot 3 men wearing Red Sox jerseys with the #91. I told my friend "I bet you they are related to Alfredo Aceves." Apparently I said that pretty loud because the three guys turned around and smiled at me. I had spotted Alfredo Aceves dad in a crowd of thousands of Red Sox jerseys. It was really cool to meet him because I loved Aceves when he was with the Yanks. We talked for a few minutes then went our merry ways...and then the Yanks lost. And then we got hit on by a Red Sox fan with the line "You're too pretty to be Yankees fans." Psh. What a lame line Boston, but what a great ending to a day spent amongst enemies.

In October of 1996 I was guest at my cousins bar mitzvah. His bar mitzvah was held in Boston, MA. But it wasnt just anywhere it was held inside Fenway Park. It just so happend that my cousins bar mitzvah was on the same night as game 6 of the 1996 World Series between the Yankees and the Atlanta Braves. During the game all of the New-Yorkers were crowded around the TV watching the game while all the people from Boston were out on the dance floor doing the Macarena. Watching the Yankees win the world series inside Fenway Park in Boston, MA is something that I'll never forget as long as I live.

During the Yankees/Red Sox ALCS in 2003, my friend Chuck and I were particularly fanatical. We watched each game together, for fear that if we didnt, it would effect the series. For game 6, the game began in the afternoon, as the game stretched into night, we refused to turn the lights on in my apartment, because we started watching the game with the lights off...we didnt want to jinx anything. For Game 7, we watched together again. I had a Yankee wall in my apartment, complete with pics of Gehrig, Joe D, The Mick, and my idol, Don Mattingly. After the Yankees fell behind, I felt they needed some luck. I began rubbing each picture on my Yankee wall for luck between each half inning. This continued until Boone ultimately won it. When the ball left the park, we yelled off my balcony. I called my girlfriend(now my wife) and screamed into the phone "MARISA!!! BOONE DID IT!!!!! BOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNEEEEEEEE" Then Chuck dropped a bomb on me.. "Rick, how would you like to go to Game 1 of the Series on Saturday?" I did not sleep that night, and went to work the next day walking on air.

I was at a game when Figueroa threw a gem and the Yanks beat the Sox 2-0 on a Reggie walk off (this was before they called it a walk off), Munson was on first... crowd went nuts and a few weeks later I saw my team win a championship
