Quinton Coples

New York Jets

Round 1, Pick 16

  • SI Grade
  • 3.30

Position: DE

Class:  Sr

School: North Carolina

HT: 6'5½"

WT: 285 lbs.

40 Time: 4.7

Conference: ACC

Biography: Two-year starter awarded all-conference honors after his senior and junior seasons. Totals last year included 55 tackles/15 tackles for loss/7.5 sacks after he had 59/15.5/10 as a junior.

Positives: Athletic defensive prospect who can be a disruptive force when motivated. Fluid moving about the field and rarely off his feet. Commands double-team blocks and tough to move off the point of attack. Breaks down well, effectively uses his hands to protect himself and plays with both balance and body control. Keeps his feet off the initial block, quickly changes direction and displays speed pursuing from the back side. Easily defeats blocks, shows speed off the edge and can be a dominant force.

Negatives: Did not play with a sense of urgency last season and disappeared for stretches. Does not consistently chase the action hard if the play is not within his immediate vicinity.

Analysis: Coming into the season Coples was justifiably rated as one of the best senior prospects in the nation. He's an impressive looking athlete who plays big and fast, disrupting plays from all angles. He offers the underlying skills to be a dominant NFL performer if he's willing to pay the price and play at a high level on every snap.

Stephen Hill

  • SI Grade
  • 3.10

Position: WR

Class:  Jr

School: Georgia Tech

HT: 6'4"

WT: 200 lbs.

40 Time: 4.3

Conference: ACC

Biography: Two-year starter who posted 28 receptions/820 yards/5 TDs as a junior with an average of 29.3 yards per reception. Sophomore totals included 15/291/3 with a 19.4 yard average.

Positives: Big, athletic receiver with tremendous upside. Smooth releasing off the line of scrimmage, immediately gets to top speed and plays to his forty time. Presents himself as a downfield threat with the ability to consistently stretch the defense. Fights with his hands throughout the action to separate from opponents, displays adequate eye/hand coordination and makes some amazingly athletic receptions. Gets vertical and adjusts to make the difficult catch in midair. Consistently catches the pass away from his frame. Works hard to come back into the clearing to make himself a free target for the quarterback. Keeps the play inbounds running after the catch and works to pick up positive yardage. Effectively picks up blocking assignments, sealing the downfield lanes open for ballcarriers.

Negatives: Lets some catchable throws slip through his hands on occasion. Does not consistently extend his hands to offer the quarterback a target. Rarely asked to run precise routes in college.

Analysis: Hill was Georgia Tech's big play pass catching threat in their option offense and the home run hitting receiver opponents were forced to keep track of. He offers the size, athleticism and the pass-catching ability to be a productive number one receiver at the next level, but he?s still raw and must get acclimated to playing in a disciplined NFL offense.

Projection: 1st
