By Juan C. Rodriguez Sun Sentinel7:30 p.m. EST, November 13, 2012 The Miami Marlins' front office continued to swing a sledgehammer at their underwhelming 2012 team, agreeing to trade starters Josh Johnson and Mark Buehrle, shortstop Jose Reyes, outfielder/infielder Emilio Bonifacio and catcher John Buck to the Toronto Blue Jays, a league source confirmed. What the Marlins are getting back in what amounts to a massive salary dump is unconfirmed. Fox Sports is reporting shortstop Yunel Escobar, right-hander Henderson Alvarez, left-hander Justin Nicolino, and infielder Adeiny Hechavarria are among the players headed to South Florida. The transaction doesn't appear to be sitting well with the club's cornerstone player. Giancarlo Stanton Tweeted: "Alright, I'm pissed off!!! Plain & Simple." Stanton is under team control through the 2016 season, but they organization's wayward direction may ultimately impact his desire to remain here long term. The Marlins, assuming they are not sending any money to the Blue Jays, arae unloading $163.75 million in guaranteed contracts to Buck, Buehrle, Johnson and Reyes. Bonifacio, who was sidelined much of last season with injuries, is arbitration-eligible. He earned $2.2 million in 2012. Reyes and Buehrle both signed free agent contracts with the Marlins as part of a $191 million spending spree last offseason. Reyes is owed $96 million over the next five seasons and Buehrle is signed through 2015 for a total of $48 million. www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-marlin...

Maybe this trade will actually be good for the Yankees. Maybe it will force them to change their offseason philosophy, stop being so darn cheap, and actually become willing to spend some money and improve their team. Maybe they will see the Blue Jays as favorites in the division and actually become inspired to be a little aggressive here.

It just seems as if everyone is out to get us. The O's, J's and presumably Boston will be better next year. I hope that Cashman has a few aces up his sleeve. If the 2014 budget directives are as serious as they lead us to believe, take an aging team that can't sign free-agents as it has in the past...add in the fact that we don't make good pre-season blockbuster trades...toss in the A-Rod contract, sprinkle with greater incentives kicking in for Jeter's option year...then add a strong dose of Boras-Cano long-term expectations and well my friends we are f'd. Sorry but...the glass really looks half-empty in Yankeeland today... Someone buy me a drink!

I hope things get better. But right now, the way this offseason is shaping up, I'm not overly optimistic.

The way it looks now the Yankees look like a last place team in the Al East. Maybe, Just maybe the Marlins will take arod off the yankees hands. Arod will lift the attendance in Florida, hope it happens.. Get some young minor league players in return. They, the Marlins will have the $$$ to pay arod now and they figure he will boost attendance. Just a thought.
