Yankees actually offered him a higher per year contract at 3 years, 24 million. Personally, this is the type of stuff that iritates me. Infante wanted 4 years, 40, which is absurd, but took 4 years, 30 from KC. Why not play for the better Yankee team at 3 years, 24 or compromise and get 3 years, 25? You're leaving 5 or 6 million on the table, but if you continue to produce, you'll make it up when you're a free agent in 3 years. Plus, you have a better chance of winning.

I don't get why Cashman did not offer the same? 4yrs at 30 is less money per yr. then 3yrs for 24. Do the Yanks have eyes on another 2b by 2017? I thought Infante would have been a better fit then Phillip's as he's a better avg. hitter(granted a weaker defender) and it's not like the Yanks have many .300 hitters on this roster. (Maybe Ellsybury and maybe Beltran, and if Jeter turns back the clock as well. But that's it) Yanks need a 2b, and the only one's i'm thinking are Phillips, but i just don't want to part with Gardner. the other is Drew, but he's a low avg hitter as well. Personally, i want Gardner on this team, and i'd go after Drew, rather then deal for Phillips. [I'd rather keep Gardner and spend money on a 2B as well] Yanks looked at 2 2b so far, and came away with nothing, so Cashman better get moving here.

Ellis would not be a bad move, but that's another 35+ yr old on this roster...lol. Or Yanks can just put Johnson at 2B and look for a 3B? (not Nunez). Can S. Drew even play 2B? It's odd the Yanks did'nt go for the extra yr and 6 million, as Cashman must be still thinking the Philips-Gardner swap is still possible. Cashman had done a great job this offseason, but i think he messed up with not giving Infante the extra year.

Cashman can't keep upping the ante every time a player gets a better offer and Cashman knew what he was going to pay Infante, no more. Now he moves on to another affordable option.

Ellis seems, besides being 5 yrs older, career numers are very close to Infante(lower ba but higher obp, near the same ops). Has anyone heard what he is asking for? I'm gathering at his age, he's not asking for more then 2yrs?
