My problem with Stewie and his ilk is when they try to "prove" their point (which is to say back up their OPINION) by minimizing and even trashing a player. It's totally uncalled for and then the usual martyrdom once they get pounced upon is just more comedy.

My problem with Loon is that he is

a.  a cranky curmudgeon

b.  intolerant of opinions that don't march in lock-step with his own

c.  prone to exaggeration and stretching the truth into near-unrecognizability

d. foul-tempered and foul-mannered

No one trashed anyone; he just didn't like the truth.  I listed a few facts about Munson in backing my position that he should never have had his number retired.  Loon squawked and he whined, but when I asked him to list any untruths I had told, Loon only responded with more invective.  I told the truth about Loon's precious Saint Thurman and he reacted typically: with blather and insults, but no facts to rebut my statements.  I offered logic and reason, and he answered with bile and sentimental slobber.

you're just as guilty when you make cracks like "precious Saint Thurman" and you pulled the same shyte with me when you asked if I was nuts or something to that effect when I said I had no problem with Mattingly's number being retired, so stop with the persecution complex. If you're going to give it, expect to get it back. By the way, seems to me that you're a new poster and expect everyone to fall into lock-step with you.

newinn,

Don't be like Loon, stick to facts, not fabrication and exaggeration.  I never questioned your mental health or stability.  I asked you if you were joking when you stated that Mattingly deserved a retired number because, you said, and I quote "...he represented Yankee baseball to a whole generation of fans when they often had little to cheer for".  I said that just because he was very good at a time when the team as a whole wasn't very good doesn't entitle him to a retired number.

As for the "Saint Thurman" crack, Loon (and others) have mythologized the man into something he wasn't simply because he died young and tragically.  Once again, he was a very good player and had an attitude and a fighting spirit that all players should emulate.  But he was not a player of the status that deserves a retired number.  Give him all the plaques you want.  Heck, put on a second shift at the plaque factory if you want...but no retired number.  Sorry, but he just doesn't merit that.

Stewie, you can say Munson doesn't deserve a retired number until the cows come home ... you're not going to change our opinions on Munson ... so I think you should call it a day on the subject.

Mo

Oh, I had let it go, until just this morning Loon, from out of nowhere as usual, lied and accused me of "trashing" Munson.  I, of course, had to answer his lie with the truth and that set newinn off.  He lied about something I'd said and I, of course, had to respond with the truth (and a correction of his version of what I'd said to him a week ago).  Read it, it's all there.

Once again I'm letting that dog go back to sleep, unless someone else (for some reason I'm thinking mostly of Loon now) stretches the truth about something I've said.

Stewie, you have trashed Munson in here ... my advice, let it go.

That's one reason I don't deal with punks like Stewie. He doesn't deserve any reasonable retort, just to be called what he is, a little punk who has no balls and is an Internet tough guy.

Stewie will get zero respect from anyone here for a reason. He's a punk.

Stewie the Punk has no clue what I think of Thurman. The punk is the only one here pretending his lousy opinion is a fact and can't discern between his interpretation of stats on his little computer or the reality of the era or ball club during Thurman's playing days.

Stewie the punk is good for a few laughs but he's got no sense of humor so we will enjoy his folly from the outside.

Keep typing punk. It's fun.

No one should get killed on the board because of one thread ... I give people more of a chance than that.

Please with the excuses on the Saint Thuman crack. I have no problem being like loon with you. I said you called me nuts OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. Now asking me if I was joking is pretty much the same as asking me if I was crazy. In readingyour posts, you have seem to know the game. Be ashame if you become another of those posters people don't seriously post with because you act like an arse hole
