1. Could the Yankees say, "here is your base salary of 21 million. We'll keep you on the 40 man roster but we want you to stay home. No baseball with us."..........Yes or No. Could they do this legally? If they couldn't. Could they; 2. Pay him the money. Put him in a uniform. Have him be one of the 25 players and NOT play him? Have him sit in the corner of the dugout every night?..........No opinions please. Could they legally do this? Yes or No. Thanks!

In both instances the players association would get involved, and the Yankees would be facing unwanted publicity... This will just hurt the Yankee image more than having Arod play (and hopefully produce).
Legally, yes they could just not play him for the interest in placing the "best" product on the field. However Arod, his lawyers, and the MLBPA would be all over the Yankees causing more harm than good.

The MLBPA will say that the Yankees as part of the contract have to allow Alex to earn the contract that he's signed to.

They should be listening to trade offers and A-Rod should be looking for a trade as well. Both sides could use a fresh start. I don't think he has much to offer other than a circus in a rebuild year. Bad combo

I'm far more afraid of him just not being good anymore than of any drama associated with him. Every team had and has users, yeah I said it. The man is under contract and as much as I would like the contract to be off the books I don't see that as a possibility so I am hoping for a better than replacement level producer. Alex is guilty as sin but making him the official scapegoat of the steroid era isn't vindicating anyone. Working out with Barry Bonds is tone deaf and beyond hubris but and I know this is beyond the realm of possiblity if he could hit anything like Barroid in his late 30s to early 40s to finish out his contract he would win me back as a fan.

No, they can't. What if Alex is really "shot." The Yankees are not forced to play him under those terms....generally speaking.

1. Generally speaking, yes. It's like firing of a manager. If a manager gets fired, he basically gets paid to go home and stay home. I know this, because I saw this happen to Billy a number of times when he was a live. It's all about that contract. 2. Yes, again.

I think he has something left in the tank. All he has to do is hit. We have seen many players 40 years and older produce well, before the steroid era. I think Alex's biggest value, right now, is his superstar status and would serve as a box office attraction. I think Miami is still a possibility because for Arod because of his spanish connection there. I am assuming that the Yankees would eat a large part of the contract.
