Everybody on this board has been screaming for years "get younger" "give the new guys a chance." This is the price you pay. The FO isn't going to mortgage the future for a high priced rental, or another over the hill veteran. They're playing pretty much the same hand they were dealt at the beginning of the season. Cashman tried cheaply to plug a few holes. We may make the playoffs, but without an incredible amount of luck, it's highly unlikely we'll get to the ALCS.

It's too bad, but when you don't hit you don't score and when you don't score you don't win games.. Pitching has been really good, so no blame there.. This slump is about as big of slump as I've seen a whole team go in for a long time ?? Girardi needs to go apesh!t...
We need someone like this:

Yet when this fiery guy had them 10 games back in July

It was this laid back guy who got them to make the great comeback.

Bomber some of these whiners have no clue about Billy Martin or any other manager. Their blind hate for Girardi overcomes them.

Excellent, Bomber, and so true! A fiery boss at work, who is constantly in your face, might get people motivated in the short term. It gets old quick however. Things were not always perfect with Billy at the helm either.

I have nothing against Lem, but it was still Billy's team, and Billy wasn't fired b/c of their 10 game deficit. They would have won with Billy at the helm as well. That was a CLUTCH team, something this team has problems with.

Our bench now consists of Ryan/Drew, Murphy and Young. We have to carry/reload with extra pitchers every other day because our starters can go past 6 and if we have an xtra inning game we are screwed for the next 2 days. Drew/Ryan are 6/40 in the month of August combined and 3 of Drew's hits came in one game. Thats a stellar .150. This is not a slump for these 2 its reality.
So we are playing with a short bench as it is plus one of these guys are in the lineup every day. Girardi can't make any moves just like in last night's game. He had to use Murphy to pitch run because Els was the only bat on the bench worth anything and he was saving him to pitch hit for Young in the 9th. Listen you can talk about slumps and this team over achieving, and making trades or not making trades but when your roster is a cluster mess like it is now and has been all year the GM has to take the fall here not the manager. He can only play the guys he has available. And btw even if Ackley was not on the DL would that really change things?
As expected, the short bench was only 1 game because they needed to carry a 13th pitcher after the 16 inning game on Tuesday. Bird is up now, and Goody is back in AAA.

imagine mets make it into playoffs & yankees dont. it would be all about the moves mets made during trade deadline getting 4 players, alwhile we picked up wackley
Heaven forbid. I doubt the Mutts will make it--they're having a luck sreak right now and it's bound to run out.
That Wackley acqusition had to be one of the stupiest ever. Useless to us, and just an excuse for Trashman to say ,"See? I did something."
Wanna do something, Trash? RESIGN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ackley was more about addressing the impending roster crunch more than anything. Several guys have to be added to the 40 man roster to be kept and moving Ramirez and Flores freed up one roster spot with the addition of a jack of all trades type player with a decent offensive ceiling. That move also allowed them to add Bird to the 40-man and as I'm sure you've read has enabled him to join the Yankees today. By no means is it a blockbuster move, but it was a very smart move "to get younger" as so many of us have been wanting to do for a very long time. It also allowed them to get rid of Jones, which was another smart move even though Ackley got hurt and Jones came back to be fired again.

It all depends on how you look at it. bench has been short all year and I don't mean from a numbers perspective. I am talking veratility and quality. Again close game and you want to hit for Drew or Ryan depending on who is in game. Who do you use? Take Friday night for example. He used Young to run for Beltran in the 9th. So up comes Drew in the 10th down one run and they let him hit because Murphy is the backup catcher and last man on the bench, Ryan can't hit let alone against a righty and they had no use for Jones. Again having both Ryan and Drew on this roster is killing us for several reasons. Only one should be and that is as a backup. So now you can send up Bird in that situation. Okay but then you use 2 guys for one move since Ryan/Drew would go in next inning to play field.

He couldve gotten an arm in the offseason via the FA route and not have lost a single prospect.

I've been beating that drum for a while. There really isn't much arguing the points that you made outside of the fact that the price for acquiring a replacement is high and they don't trust Refsnyder. For whatever reason they love Drew. Maybe this 5 game skid will prompt a change in this painful pattern of the most ridiculous platoon I've ever seen aka Drew & Ryan.
