There is a phone scam going on right now . I spent over 30 years working for the Treasury Dept. and some people are calling people claiming they owe back taxes on their Federal student tuition for their children. No such tax . If you get this kind of call ,hang up and contact the IRS.
Also there is an email scam going on involving all banks . If you do your banking on line , beware of emails being sent to you supposeldly sent to you by your bank.
Mine happens to be Bank of America , telling me I needed to log in and they had an alert for me for me to verify my identity. I promptly called customer service and they can search their data base to see if they sent you that email. Turns out they did not send it and put an immediate alert on all my accounts , even though they monitor the accounts 24/7.They also requested I forward this email. I read the email to the customer service person word for word and told her there were several links to click onto .I don't do links in emails. She told me it was a suspicious email . She also said I was correct , that there was no need for me to verify who I was.
Just be beware of these emails being sent to you by your bank. When in doubt, call customer service. Better to be safe than sorry. I had too much experience dealing with ID theft in my job.
