he should have never even been in the game. They should have gone into the 9th with a 9-2 lead had they not left a small village of base runners stranded. Veterans , kids, this is an epedemic with this team of not taking advantage of scoring opportunities all year. They had 4 opportunities to add to their lead and failed miserably. True, Betance stunk it up, but he shouldn't bear the whole blame.
Same sh!t different year... Betances wears down at the end. Why they don't rest him more during the season, I'll never know.

One of the reasons they don't rest him is they very seldom blow a close game open late in the game and have to go to him. Remember he's only been the closer since July and was the bridge to Miller and Chapman, and with the starters barely going 5 innings, he pitched a lot of innings

I agree Luv. Betances is pitching on fumes and he needs a couple of days off. Pitching so much didn't effect his velocity but his location was effected.
They've worn him out the last 2 seasons

They have worn him out because the rest of the bullpen had been horrible and Girardi was going to him for 4-5 and 6 outs because of his lack of confidence in the bullpen. Even with the guys they brought up the bullpen is sub par.

Tyler clippard and Adam Warren combined since the trade deadline have an ERA under 2.. Severino outta the bullpen has a 0 ERA.. enouh of the excuses for a medicore manager.

Girardi should stick to resting him when he sees a need. The offense has had someone to cover their ass for too long, time to just get it done. Cover the bullpen's ass for once.

The evidence suggests otherwise. Since Betances emerged as an elite setup man in 2014, Girardi has treated him like a safety net, calling upon him to bail the Yankees out of precarious situations with abandon. As a result, Betances has worked 20 more innings (244) and thrown nearly 300 more pitches (3,908) than any other reliever during that span. And as a season progresses, Betances’s performance tends to decline. For his career, he has an ERA of 1.79 from April through August, and 3.60 in September and October.

I'm not making excuses, I'm stating facts. The premise was Betances is worn out and I stated factually why. Other than Clippard and Severino the rest of the bullpen has been shaky at best and neither were available last night.

Yeah, doesnt have anything to do with a quick hook to his starting pitchers even when they're pitching well.. or his lack of trust in anyone but Betances, whose fault is that?

I put the blame on that 4-19 (give or take) start. It was just too big a hole to dig out of. This team has been super streaky for over half a decade and too many people couldn't see the forest for the trees when it came to the past couple weeks run.
