he should have never even been in the game. They should have gone into the 9th with a 9-2 lead had they not left a small village of base runners stranded. True, Betance stunk it up, but he shouldn't bear the whole blame.

Betances is solely to blame for this loss and he's proven time and time again that he's not a closer.  I said that before the fire sale, but nobody was listening.  We're going to pay big money for Chapman in the off-season.

"Should have Layne been brought in? Yes. Lefty on lefty every time. Should Parker been brought in? Of course. Young has been hitting over .400 the last month and is known to hit lefty pitching. Should Betances been brought in? Absolutely not.

The Yankees needed two outs and Parker was a better fit to get those outs than Betances. Betances threw 36 pitches in 2.1 IP the last two days and has pitched poorly after pitching two straight days throughout this career. The worst part is Girardi knows this as he has always resisted putting in his relievers three straight days. But, in one of the most pivotal games of 2016 for the Yankees, Girardi goes against his own binder. "

I like Betances.

But we have seen, much to our detriment, that he cannot pitch 3 days in a row.

Last night was his 3rd straight appearance.

So, I give him the benefit of the doubt that he is being overused by Girardi.

That said, I am appalled that Dellin cannot field his position, whether it is keeping a runner on base (100% stolen base chance against him?) or throw to home or 1st. How can this happen? How was this not corrected in the early part of his career? This does not bode well for him as a reliever if the opposing team is allowed to continue these exploits.

Having watched every inning of last nights debacle, this is what has frustrated me with Girardi since he took over the team in 2008. Not certain what mental incapacity he has, but it rears its ugly head at the worst of times.

This was a WON game Girardi lost. We accrued enough runs to win. Now it was about defense and pitching. Even putting in Mason Williams as a defensive replacement was odd. He looked like a deer in headlights in RF.

This is why Ive been beacthing about not getting a top notch pitcher via trade and/or FA.  We havent developed a pitcher worth a SH!T  since Andy...what you point out underlines that fact and is why Ive got zero confidence in our orgs pitching coaches.  He had to throw UNDERHANDED last nite to home plate. As bad as he is as a fielder, CC fields his posittion better than DB.

Yes I wanna blame the 1st base umpire, Ramirez went around on the 2-1 slider out of the zone and he called a check swing just to cause drama and make the game more interesting. Typical umpire that doesn't care about calling the game right even though we are working hard trying to get a playoff spot. Betances was forced to throw a 3-1 fastball over the plate and Hanley took him deep to end the game.

Betances didn't have to throw a 3-1 fastball over the plate. He could have gone with a breaking ball down and away and see if he could get Ramirez to chase and if he didn't fine it would be bases loaded two out and Travis Shaw up who is a good hitter but not nearly the hitter Ramirez is. Maybe Betances would have still blown the game but he may have had at least a little bit better chance of getting Shaw out than he did Ramirez. Yes the Yankees and Betances didn't get the call on the check swing because sh** happens but it is all on Betances as far as giving up the three run home run.

I agree Luv. Betances is pitching on fumes and he needs a couple of days off. Pitching so much didn't effect his velocity but his location was effected.

He threw 50 pitches the prior 2 games. I put it on Joe and his refusal to trust anyone other than Betances. He also gave the obvious explanation. "He's our best" so I guess that means run him ragged.

I think some people remember that this happened to Betances the past 2 years, He seems to melt down in September. and it is from overuse  by Girardi. I saw Torre do this with many of his  relief  pitchers. It seems that  Girardi is using Torre's binder.

Yes, we left runners on base all night (Ref has been particularly horrendous of late), but Betances still entered the game with a fat lead. No excuses.

Of course it was Betances fault, but you're missing the point that of the offense had come through in clutch spots, the score is 8 or 9-2 and he never comes into the game. The fault was his but the blame is equally shared by the offense.
