More like Jack McDowell over John Wetteland, by the same manager.
Nothing like that; Wetteland had gotten his boobies knocked off by the Mariners in that series.
The got him for 3 hits, a BB and two earned runs in game 1. He pitched 3 1/3 innings in game 2, and pitched well until the 12th, when he gave up a go ahead HR to Griffey, Jr. Sierra's RBI double in the botton of the 12th bailed him out before Leyritz' HR won it. The day before game 5, Wetteland came into a tie game in the 8th, walked Coleman, Cora bunted for a hit, he hit Griffey with a pitch and Edgar Martinez belted the eventual game-winning grand slam, all within 15 pitches, and took the loss.
Coming into game 5, Wetteland had an ERA over 14 in that series, with 8 hits and 2 HR in 4 1/3 innings. Quite understandable that Buck didn't trust him with the season on the line in game 5.
Britton hadn't allowed a run since April. 47 saves with a single blown save the whole year. Seven scoreless appearances against the Jays this year including 5 saves. Not nearly the same thing.
Yep not going to Wetteland was at least logical... he was not good in that series at all. Buck's mistake there was taking Mariano out who was dominating them. Well except for Edgar.

Girardi's binder told Buck to leave Britton on the pine and bring in Jimenez.
Maybe Girardi's tactics aren't as unusual as people think.
In fact, Buck's decision to not use Britton and to lose with lesser relievers is far less defensible than just about any mistake Girardi made this year, including going to Betances in Boston, because:
1) Britton is a vastly superior pitcher to either Duensing or Jimenez
2) Jimenez is a starter working in relief for the first time in 7 weeks
3) Britton had a day off before that game
4) He would've gotten another day off after the game
Now, thanks to Buck's blunder, he'll get the next 130 days off.
I'm sure Buck did it to leave Britton available in case the O's took the lead. It's not the first and won't be the last time a manager managed a postseason game for what-could-be instead of the situation at hand. See Torre, 2006 ALDS. Jaret Wright pitching an elimination game in game 4 and not Chien Ming Wang who was sent back to NY to get ready for a Game 5 which never happened.

I can't believe the Yankees actually managed to get 2 runs off MadBum in their game this year....

Swee, I was hoping the Jys would win. Not because I dislike them less than the O's- quite on the contrary actually. I love the O's park and the fans and the team aren't horrible to be around either. Toronto and it's fan's I deespise. However...... Roughned Odor vs. Jose Bautista ROUND 2!!!!! YESSSSS!!!!!!
I'd pay $59.99 and sit through the undercard for that.
